Today:
Classy and kitschy at once, the decor celebrates the Rat Pack era of Vegas history with framed art, subdued lighting, and tasteful neon.
Good food and fun atmosphere. It is a bit hit and miss though I found. Some nights the service is great other nights it's a little slow. I worry because everytime I have been it has not been busy. I do hope it makes it. The southside needs some more indpendent restaurants like this.
Excellent Menu, Service left a lot to be desired..
Having spent many many years in the building that now houses Hal's (as a server at Stringer's) many years ago. I decided I should go in and check the new look and menu out. Have heard only good things, this sounded like the perfect place for a date night sans child.
Seven thirty on a Saturday night I expected the place to be full, to my delighted surprise it was not. I want to eat where everyone else wants to eat, just not as the same time as everyone else. The youngish host greeted us politely at the door and the seater turned out to be our server. Who after seating us, announced she would be our server and then disappeared for about 5 minutes without a drink order...
Upon reappearance I asked for a Martini recommendation, the list being extensive and intriguing I wondered what was popular. They feature "Classics" such as Harvey Wallbangers, Sidecars, Old Fashioneds, just to name a few. As well as what seems to be newly created ones, Such as the Cosmotini which I ended up ordering, with a lack recommendation, it was wonderful. I expected nothing less from the proprietor of the Slippery Noodle.
We were asked if we wanted an appetizer, I again asked for a recommendation..., everything was good seemed to be a popular answer.
We passed on the app and went straight for dinner. The server did mention the steaks were her favorite but not a specific one. I went with the small Filet, Oscar style (hollandaise, asparagus, and crab meat) it included one side, I chose the made from scratch fries (think In and Out Burger!) My beaux went with the Surf and Turf, filet with cajun shrimp, it included a small house salad.
I thought it was interesting that some steaks included a salad while others included a side. I thought it could have been a little more thought out.
The salad was fresh and tasty, the Ranch dressing was very good, homemade with a little kick!
Our dinners arrived promptly and while the meat was delicious, they were both Medium instead of our ordered Medium Rare. While I would have sent it back for the correct temp the server never checked back to make sure everything was great with in a timely manner. So being hungry we ate both the steaks, and she did finely return to ask if "Everything was alright?" and it was ...alright.
We skipped dessert, they featured and apple dumpling, cheesecake, creme brulee, and a chocolate dessert of some kind.
I would love to go back, it is a great building with an awesome ambiance. If the staff treated you like you were in Vegas this place would be a great hit.
