Best seafood bar menu in town!

Last Saturday, after a long, chilly afternoon of helping my father shop for a condo, I took him to Mitchell's for a bite and to defrost. I immediately made a beeline for the cosy bar, knowing that we could have our bellies and palettes satisfied by the very delicious and generous bar menu.

I'm letting the cat out of the bag! Every day, come four, anyone can get their hands on one of the best seafood bar menus in town. For $2.95 you get such tasty delights as Old Bay Peel & Eat Shrimp, California Blackened Fish Taco, Hoisin Glazed Chicken Wings and more!

Dad ordered a double shot of Smirnoff and I settled for my usual Vodka Cranberry. To accompany such serious alcohol consumption we also requested Pan Roasted Wild Blue Mussels, Peel & Eat Shrimp and a bowl of the Lobster Bisque (not on Bar Menu unfortunately). Each of the three items was a delight! The shrimp were large and juicy. The mussels were fresh and tender and came in a buttery broth with a hint of garlic that perfectly complimented their flavor. The bisque was heaven with small chunks of lobster thrown in. I'm no gourmand, but I know good food when it settles on my tongue!

I enjoyed everything so much, that I decided to drag my husband back to Mitchell's this last Tuesday. We ordered two servings of Hoisin Glazed Chicken Wings, the mussels, the peel & eat shrimp and Vegetable Fries with Chipotle Ketchup...What?? We were hungry! The wings were terrific as was the shrimp, but on this occasion the mussels were disappointing. They definitely did not have the same fresh taste as they did in Saturday - I don't care what they say, these puppies were not delivered fresh that day! No matter - the sauce was still just as good. The Veggie fries were also a bit of a letdown. The batter was too thick and the vegetables were not our favorites to start with - carrots, green peppers and zucchini. Oh well! You can't win them all! Other items on the menu such as Buffalo Shrimp, Cod Sliders and the Fish Tacos are also excellent (I have tried them on past visits). The only unknown is the Kung Pao Fried Calamari - sounds tasty! Going back to try it next week.

The service in the bar is always friendly and cheerful and the atmosphere is perfect if you like a bar where you can hold a conversation without having to scream over the noise. Mitchell's Bar is classy and I highly recommend it!

yuck

As a Mitchell's Fish Market insider, let me tell you a few things. Number one: fish is NOT so fresh. The scallops come from a can. The crab legs are frozen. The soup is made from fish scraps that you would never eat if they weren't hidden in soup. As for the silverware, I cannot count the number of times I have come across a fork or spoon that was crusted with old food. If that doesn't make you lose your appetite, I don't know what will. The service staff leaves much to be desired. They have no knowledge of wine at all, and the last time I was there, I ordered a Grey Goose, and our server asked me if I wanted a bottle or a glass. Sorry, it is vodka, not wine. It makes you wonder who would hire people like this to work in their restaurant. If you are interseted in fish, I would suggest going across the street to Kona Grill, or going downtown to Oceanaire. If you want good, fresh seafood with a great wait staff, this is NOT the place to go.
