Today:
The donut's fortunes have fallen, and emphasis has made its way to "eating healthy." The Donut Shop flies the flag of a bygone era, when a hot cup of the bitter bean and fried pastries were an acceptable, nay, the preferred way to start the day.
I love donuts, but the one I had from the Donut Shop left a greasy, slimy feel in in my mouth. Ugh.
I've actually never had the donuts from here, but I have had breakfast several times. If you like to eat a big, greasy plate of breakfast for not much money, then this is your place. I swear its the best hangover cure ever!
I LOVE the Donut Shop. Call me crazy, but it's good food. I've never had their lunch options there though (if you have breakfast food, I'll all over it like maple on hotcakes). But breakfast suits me just fine. You seat yourself (it doesn't say so) and they only take cash, but I'd eat there every morning for breakfast if I lived close (and could consue 2-3 donuts and egg and cheese buscuits with out any kind of significant weight gain). Good, cheap food for a hangover, good cheap food for any day. I'd rather eat here than O'McD's or a gas station Krispy Creme, that's for sure.
not the worlds best coffee, not the best tasting chicken salad, not a great idea for a date, but if youre hung-over, want some greasy breakfast food in the middle of the afternoon, or just need a place to sit and read a book with little to no distractions, this is your spot. well, maybe not the best place to read a book.
youve got the usual breakfast menue of eggs (prepared to order), a meat (their bacon is AWESOME), and home fries or hash browns (so crispy!) @ about 2/3 of the cost of a dennys.
AND THE DONUTS!!!! classic american flavors - dutch apple, jelly, plain yeast with chocolate icing. none of them good for your arteries, but all tasting like jesus is in the kitchen, loving what he's doing.
croissant sandwiches with gooey cheese and sausage? you got em. a steak and eggs that costs less than $15? you got it! yummy crinkle cut fries? have at it.
but be warned; it gets packed on the weekends (only seating for about 50 customers) and parking is a chore (tiny lot and the subway next door frown on you using their spaces) but its worth the trip. its right on keystone near 56th, so its on your way somewhere else. stop in for a kruller sometime soon!
The Best Donuts
Without a doubt the best donuts in town! If you have hankering for a deliciously decorated and wonderfully glazed masterpiece, do yourself a favor.
