Today:
Sick of McArbyKing but still in need of quick eats? Taste handles a weekday lunch or Sunday brunch with equal aplomb, and the coolers are filled with all kinds of gourmet treats. Salads, deli sandwiches and pomme frites with basil aioli dip are lunchtime favorites, but Taste's omelets and weekend egg specials are developing a loyal breakfast clientele. The cafe's spare interior is lit with pendant fixtures reflecting on brushed aluminum surfaces. Sidewalk tables are available next to the bustle of College Avenue.
I have no complaints about this delicious spot in Broad Ripple. The food is amazing and the servers are chic and helpful. It's packed at brunch, but the quality of food more than makes up for the wait in line sometimes. If you have not been. It is a must!!!
Not that biscuits and gravy isn't normally delicious. But the Dede and Marc (and staff) somehow make this tasty breakfast staple into something even better -- fluffy, yet dense biscuits topped with a white sausage gravy that has all the flavor and goodness you grew up with, but without the sticky, lardy aftertaste and mouthfeel. A sprinkle of cheese makes this one of the best brunches I've had in quite some time.
Of course, the breakfast sandwich (that pesto aiolo is divine) and the Spanish hot chocolate were just as amazing. It's all about the foods you know and love with just a tiny twist that makes them that much better.
This pair of restaurant owners, Marc and Dede, marketed their ideas to Meridian Kessler area keeping in mind the tastes of their audience. They run the most efficient, tastiest, most populated independent restaurant in the city. Anyone wanting to get into the business would do well to apprentice here and take lots of notes to avoid all the pitfalls of running a restaurant. Having said that, check out the food: FRESH is the operative word in their menu.
Everyone else here has said it well, so I'll try to be short. The food was great (a bit expensive, but no huge complaint there); we had a great mushroom, sausage and red pepper quiche, and a vegetarian strata (which is much like a Quiche, except thicker and no thin crust).
After the breakfast we decided to buy some of the cheese they had for sale in the front counter; one of the owners was nice enough to talk to us about the different types they had, and give us advice on how best to enjoy it.
Definitely a place to go back to; am very happy it's in the neighborhood. :-)
I just wish the Sunday wait was a little less, and there was more seating. LOVE THE FOOD THO!!! My husband loves the cheap and tasty slices of pecan pie and I try and get something different every time I go. I have yet to order something I didn't like. :)
I love this place! Everytime I go in I am pleased. I am a big fan of their pomme frittes and South West Breakfast Burrito. I actually plan on stopping in today and snagging a cache of cheese to munch on this weekend. Their baked goods always kick ass as well! I heard they were taking over the area next door and opening for dinner but I have yet to see that happen. If anyone knows anymore about this please let me know.
Did I mention they have some gnarly cheese?
My mouth waters every time I think about Taste Cafe. After reading this, I think I'll have to go there tomorrow. Those pomme frites. With aoli. Sigh. I usually get something different (I want it all!) and I'm never let down. We like to stop here to, it's great to get it to go and have a picnic at the IMA or else where. The wait in line is never long, and the wait for food isn't either. Seating can be sparse, but that's just because everyone loves it there! One of my favorite places, def.
by far my favorite place to eat in broad ripple. this place screams incredible. i used to live across the street from here and would go at least once a week for breakfast. each meal would always include their pot de creme. i love chocolate......and this is heaven. if you have never experienced taste, go immediately!!!!!
Great tastes at Taste
Can't help it. Every time I head into Taste Café & Marketplace intending to get something different, my willpower wanes and I give in to the need for another b.a.l.t. (that's bacon, avocado, lettuce & tomato) on French bread. And when my willpower completely abandons me, I get an order of pommes frites with basil aoli.
Plenty of other sandwiches are wonderful as well (the veggie, the curried chicken salad, the erin - asparagus, sprouts, onion, provolone and swiss), and Taste has some killer desserts (chocolate pot de crème, bread pudding, a chocolate pecan tart) and popular salads and breakfast items. But I love that b.a.l.t.
Sandwiches range from about $5.50 to $6.50; pommes frites are $2.75.
