Today:
Some guys like to carry their pizzas out in a cardboard box and don't care about gourmet toppings. Some guys prefer to have their pizza plated with a pinch of pizzazz. Those guys hang out at 62nd St. and Allisonville Road. Some Guys Pizza's dimly lit canopied booths are separated by decorative wrought iron.
better than bazbaux and pucchinis (forgive my no doubt terrible butchering of the spelling on those).
and that's nothing against either one of those fine establishments, considering that I'd rather eat any of them than the delivery chains... than from a box out of the freezer, etc
their pasta dishes are pretty spectacular, too!
good pitcher pricing and they often have a pretty tasty craft beer on tap
So, I felt obligated to try this place out after it received some top nods from NUVO's "Best Of" issue. Well, I don't get it. It was ok...just ok. Nothing special here, tons of toppings, too many in fact. We ordered the "Bomb" and everything just fell off the slice as I picked it up. The crust is plain, nothing inspired, although I was happy to see it was a New York style as opposed to that Chicago style trash, and the delivery time was impeccable (20 minutes on an hour quote). The sauce, also was pretty unexceptional, and I was kinda bummed that my pizza came with a topping that was not listed on the menu. We also had some cheesy garlic bread...which is sadly uncreative and pretty trite.
All in all, it was an acceptable slice. Best of Indy? Naw, but its ok.
Don't get discouraged by the long line to be seated. This small restaurant dishes out large flavor. Reasonably priced beer with a good selection of microbrews offer the perfect compliment to any of their signature pizzas. The barbeque chicken pizza is my personal favorite.
Go on a weeknight, because the waiting room is bigger than the actual dining room at the Allisonville location.
But I went there recently, got a picther of Blue Moon beer (real pitcher, 60oz!), a customized medium sized pizza and an order of cheesy bread. It fed two of us, and even had 3 left over pieces...for only $24.
I highly recommend this spot.
Cheesybread
Thats all I have to say.
