Pull up a stool, take a seat at the table or linger on the patio. The decor is sleek and contemporary, but not stuffy or pretentious. The seasonal gourmet menu takes on simple sandwiches and pizza, served on fresh ciabatta bread or topped with chipotle barbeque sauce and asiago cheese. ShelBi St. Cafe & Bistro is your best option if you're in Fountain Square for duckpin bowling, a show, or a gallery opening and you want more than a grilled cheese.
The unique decor at ShelBi Street is a nice refreshing change from the standard Indy fair. Indy.com describes the scene as sleek and contemporary but an art deco feel comes through. The main room is comfy and open.
We started with sourdough bread with jazzed up balsamic vinegar for dipping. My wife loved the spinach salad with fresh cheese vinagrette dressing. She enjoyed the Chicken Sandwich but continued to rave about the spinach salad. I splurged on the Spanish Paelle for $20 a pop. I found the paelle outstanding but perhaps a tad small on the portion although filling. We finished up with a chocolate mouse cake topped with a raspberry sause that was truly one the best desert I have ever enjoyed. A glistening glass of riesling finished up the meal in a wonderful way.
What a wonderful experience ShelBi Street CaFe and Bistro offers. You feel like you are on vacation in a different time and place. A truly nice and different place for a little getaway from the everyday. I want to go back, order a bottle of wine, and try another desert.
If you don't head to Shelbi Street Cafe and try the Philly Steak 'n' Cheese it is a CRIME. Cute decor, cozy atmosphere, spot-on wait staff and the food was amazing. Can't wait to go back.
A friend and I finally headed to the Shelbi St. Cafe last night. I was a little nervous because a) I'm a poor graduate student and b) the menu looked pricy online. Anyhow we walk into a nice inviting, chic atmosphere with friendly wait-staff. We decided to go light and split an appetizer (Crab Cakes on a bed of mixed greens with a sweet chili sauce) and a side salad. We both chose the signature Gingham Salad which was mixed field greens tossed in a poppy seed vinaigrette with seasonal berries, mandarin oranges, toasted pecans and blue cheese crumbles...it was delicious! The crab cakes were light and fluffy with some spice. Altogether it was a filling meal. We finished it off with their coffee of the day, a dark and white chocolate mocha with whipped cream. All in all it was well worth the drive and not too expensive (as I prevoiusly thought) and trust me, I will be there again next week!
Great service, wonderful atmosphere and delicious food!
Oh and incredible coffee! The serve my favorite, Hubbards and Cravens and offer some really delectable ways of serving it!
