Shalimar Tasty and Atmospheric

I have a secret obsession with punjabi bhaji and the Shalimar was the place that introduced me to the culinary treat. It's not your typical Indian buffet fair, often being overshadowed by its siblings chicken tikka masala and saag paneer. What it is, are crispy vegetable fritters in a savory sweet creamy tomato sauce replete with large slivers of peppers and other fresh garden fair.

Their beer list is good and less expensive than your local watering hole. A large Taj compliments a meal like a dream. If you're adventurous enough order the meat bred, kema naan, naan stuffed with lamb and cilantro. The samosas are always well prepared and piping hot.

The wait staff is excellent and a few servers have helped me through the years to hone my language skills to a razors edge, seriously though their servers are a step above other local Indian establishments.

The place isn't too big, it feels cozy and the music is spot on. Their lunch buffet isn't as large and exhaustive as it could be, but it's well maintained and the food tastes fresh.

Definitely recommended. Go have dinner with a group of friends, order a lot of food, it'll be grand.

First timer

I went to Shalimar for the lunch buffet today, a detour from my regular India Garden. Very impressed with the variety on the lunch buffet despite its tight quarters. Two varieties of nice, a couple kinds of naan and a couple dishes I have not seen or tried on the buffet at India Garden. I didn't like the taste or consistency of the kheer (rice pudding), but I was already full and didn't need it anyway. Good lunch buffet for a good price.

Shalimar -- A favorite buffet

Stopped in at Shalimar recently and was reminded why I have several of the restaurant's frequent diner cards -- it's an excellent buffet. What makes the difference between a so-so lunch buffet and a great one? Attentive service, a buffet that's kept filled, and of course excellent food at a reasonable price. Appealing ambiance doesn't hurt.

Some of my favorite buffets items: vegetable pakoras and samosas, palak paneer, lamb kofta curry and chicken tikka masala, all with rice and garlic naan. And gajar halva, a carrot pudding, for dessert.

Now if I could only manage to find my frequent diner cards and actually fill one up with stamps instead of getting a new one each time -- wonder if they'll take 10 separate cards or whether you have to actually get one filled up in order to get a free lunch buffet?

great food

My wife and I enjoy this restaurant it's clean, neat and the food is always great. My wife is Asian Indian from Singapore and this is a quick getaway from the local food when we are not traveling, to kinda remind her of home.

always great

Shalimar is my favorite place in town to get Indian food. The lunch buffet is great, as is the dinner menu. Service has always been consistant and friendly.
