Sawasdee Thai Cuisine

Named for the Thai greeting, Sawasdee welcomes adventurous Hoosier palates to a small storefront on West 86th St. Customers are nearly on top of each other when the restaurant reaches capacity, but the servers do an admirable job of weaving between tables to take orders, deliver dishes and refill drinks.

Thai that tingles

If there was ever a place to try Thai food for the first time, Sawasdee on West 86th Street is it. My friend Jen and ...

Best Thai place in Indy? It's my favorite.

Today the best part of my day so far was eating my leftovers from dinner last night at Sawasdee. I love Thai food and have been to five different joints in Indy, and this one is my favorite.

The staff is very nice, the food is great and the decor is inviting (a surprise from the strip-mall front). They'll make almost anything on the menu vegetarian if you ask, and I'm a sucker for the genre's tendency to incorporate peanut-flavors into menu items. Try the spring rolls, the fried tofu and the Mansamaun curry. Yum. Plus, the restaurant seems to attract a friendly client base.

#10 - Medium - Two Spring Rolls

That's my regular order at Sawasdee for lunch. #10 is the Thai Noodle Soup and it's unlike anything I've ever had. I'm not even sure how to describe it. It's a bit spicy with stringy rice noodles, bean sprouts, onion (sweet), crushed peanuts, pepper flakes of some sort. It comes with chicken and shrimp balls. The flavor is sweet and yet spicy. If you like HOT foods, you'll be surprised at how hot the "hot" can get. In fact, I recommend the "medium" or "mild" heat levels just to be safe.

Not only is this my favorite dish at Sawasdee (and they don't serve it on weekends), it's my favorite dish anywhere. Most of my Sawasdee friends agree. According to Ty, the owner (ironic name, eh?), it's also the most difficult thing to create on their menu.

However, I also like the Drunken Noodles (#7) and everything else on the lunch menu. They usually have a green curry chicken that's also very tasty.

The people at Sawasdee are almost like family. They know my regular order and take care of me. Recently, they doubled the size of their dining room and it's STILL crowded every time I go.

Great food! Great service!

My husband and I have been going to Sawasdee for great Thai food for over 6 years. It's an unassuming place being in a strip mall, but the restaurant recently expanded to the storefront next door and it's really a pleasant place to come eat.

The food is wonderful - we really enjoy their satays, pad thais and lard nars. The soups are great too and if you're a fan of having your tongue burn and your nose run, try their Curries - delicious!

The owner - Tai- is super friendly and takes great pride in serving folks, personally coming out to bag left-overs and refill drinks. The overall service is speedy and attentive.

All in all, a great place to grab lunch or dinner if you like authentic Thai cuisine.

Delicious...

Had dinner there with a friend the other night who loves Thai but has yet to experience it in Indy, and it was a hugh hit. The soup was hot and full of chunks of vegetables, the spring roll hot and delicious and our meals the perfect level of spice and flavorful goodness. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good, flavorful food!!

sawasdelightful

My teenage daughter and I have been going out for ethnic food night for the past 3 years and we ablsolutely love Sawasdee. One of my favorites is listed in the sidedishes but it is a full meal. It has shrimp, cilntro, and lots of veggies in a fresh tart and spicy sauce. To die for. Everything is fantastic at Sawasdee!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic Restaurant!

I LOVE Sawasdee! If you are looking for a great Thai restaurant, look no further. The food is fabulous, the service is fantastic, and the price is very reasonable. The owner gives you personalized service, and the rest of the staff are great.

This isn't a "five star restaurant" setting. It has a much more family feel, and the warmth is appreciated. If you are looking for a place with great food, fun atmosphere, and a comfortable setting, this is a great choice. It is my favorite restaurant in Indianapolis.
