Funny story: Murphy's was once a Frisch's Big Boy in the 1950s. Since then, though names have changed a couple of times, Murphy's is pure steakhouse with Irish themes and hospitality. You'll feel at home here.
listen, i am not going to say this is the best steak i have ever had. nor am i going to say the decor is hip or makes me want to hang out there.
this place gives you a plate of food that you will eat, enjoy, then pay for.
the wait staff is awesome. the clientele is one of the most diverse groups of people ive ever seen in a Keystone establishment. you get FULL for the cheap.
aside from the fact that they recently (two years ago) got rid of their famous hot bacon & cabbage salad, this place is a landmark. straight up steaks, potatoes, veggies, and one of the best hours old onion soups you will ever have, all served in a building that has seen four generations of awesome.
build your own, eat fresh-ish seafood at a fair price (the Oceanaire downtown smells like fish) and get an awesome cocktail at a more than fair price.
hands down the best home town taste on the north side of indy.
This restaurant isn't in the best location, doesn't have the best decor, isn't the largest, but I would recommend it to anyone. If you want to have a great steak without the snobbery, then you'll fall in love with Murphy's. If Cheers were a restaurant, and in Indianapolis, it would look alot like this place. Give it a chance sometime.
Best Value for steak
Hey, if it's a special occasion, and I am taking a date, then this wouldn't be on the list of consideration. But when taking my family, child included, then this is the spot for a steak. My chid loves steak, and I love to have money left after eating out. What more can I say?
