Today:
Mug-N-Bun employees are in the basement at 7 a.m. each morning crafting vats of syrup to serve up to 300 gallons of fresh root beer that day. The drive-in restaurant's root beer recipe remained a secret through an ownership change, and the menu remains largely unchanged. Loyal customers drive from all over the city for huge onion rings, tenderloin sandwiches and the Mug-N-Bun special: a bacon cheeseburger on toast. Don't be surprised if you see drivers speed over from the track to pick up a burger and root beer when the IRL or NASCAR is in town, but if you got a hankering for the Mug on race day, don't bother; they're closed.
we ate outside when it was warm. it was nice and food was pretty good if I remember correctly.
We kept hearing about this place and decided to go. We both ended up with painful stomach aches. I guess if you like incredibly greasy food then this is your place. Everything we ordered was dripping with grease. We were not impressed. It seemed pretty run down too. We never went back.
Or at least that is what I think the name should be..
I have been here a few times over the years and it is hit or miss along with the fact that i don't feel 'safe' eating here...
Good rootbeer and dogs!
We used to be OBSESSED with this place in high school. I'm not really sure why, but I have some very fond Mug-N-Bun memories. They brew their own root beer and its pretty good.
Great tenderloins and cheese cubes. I'm not a huge fan of root beer, but I always order it here. This place is easy to miss but worth a try at least once.
This is a great place, I heard about it through my girlfriends grandma and ive been wanting something that would hit the spot that had a nice atmosphere like this place. We ordered and it was delicious. The tenderloin I had was great and the float was very nice too. I would recommend it to anyone who is in the area or passing through.
I love drive up restaurants where you can eat in your car, or eat on the patio. My grandma used to take me here as a kid for a special treat. I can't recommend anything fabulous other then the root beer float. I don't remember what meal I had last time I was there, all I remember was my float. I don't find this place scary to eat at, but maybe I'm just brave. ;)
everything on the menu tastes fried which is ok for a menu that is 85% fried. the classsic american drive in still exists on the west side! greasy burgers, frency fries and shakes to die for. oh yea, they have fried cheese.
not always the best or nicest service, but rest assured you are eating at an Indy legend. great to stop or just drive by on a summer saturday night to see the car shows, or just run by for lunch is youre anywhere nearby. good eats, they just all taste fried.
Pretty good food. I never really dug the drive in. It just does not seem very practical for an area with long winters. Great Root Beer though!
Coney dogs are one of my favorite junk foods, and I will travel all the way to Kokomo to get a good one if I have to. This place does NOT have good coney/chili dogs. The sauce tastes like it came right out of a can, which it probably did. All I really expect from a rootbeer/hot dog/burger joint like this is a decent coney. If you can't do that, you shouldn't be in business.
The rootbeer is fine. Everything is incredibly greasy. The place is rundown and not in the best part of town.
Love it!
Try the peanut butter milkshake, awesome. If you did not know the pizza joint behind mug and bun makes the best pizza in town, the gal has been there for years and she knows her pizza! I drive from the carmel area at least once a week to get pizza here, FABULOUS!
