Today:
Short of erecting rice paper walls, Mikado does what it can to create an authentic Japanese environment with polished wood and lush vegetation. Sheath your katana at the end of business, slip of your shoes and contemplate eternity over a piece of raw fish.
This is one of my fav sushi restaurants in the city. I adore the sun roll. Every time I have dined here has been pleasant, the service has been a little slow but attentive.
I haven't been there in awhile, but it was always great. The decor is very nice and the food is wonderful. It's nice to be able to grab some authentic sushi without leaving downtown. They have the capacity to host private parties too, which is nice. A little pricey, but overall a very good place to eat.
Very Good Pricey Sushi
We had our new years dinner at Mikado, if I could give it a 4.5 stars I would. It's better than many places for service and interior style. If anything a lot of the food is lacking originality that you might expect from this sort of place.
I had the salt grilled fish traditional appetizer. The waiter was kind enough to warn me it was very fishy. I told him to bring it. It was a flavor experience. I'd guess 3 out of 8 people at the table really enjoyed it. If you like the ocean in your mouth, it's very good.
The sushi was sushi, it was fresh and well cut. Nothing to make me write home about. They do have an excellent sake selection, I chose an unfiltered milky sake that proved to be very nice.
The service was first rate and the interior of the place is very well decorated. Good fun downtown for more than a few bucks. I think the two of us ate for around $80.
