Refined dining in the heart of Irvington. This Washington St. storefront cafe has done an admirable job of fighting Eastside blight with chandeliers, hung art and simply appointed tables.
I certainly agree with the Indy.com review and the "mix of down-home and uptown". Sometimes the two mix in strange, bewildering ways. However, the overall dining experience has always been a good one. We visit the Legend often and take our guests who visit from out of town. The food is consistenly fresh and nicely prepared. When you go, get the feta cheese torta appetizer - our favorite!
Living on the east side, most people will recommend this place right away. I've only tried breakfast, and it was good, but not great. I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. I had the crepes. But I'll still definitely be going back to try out the dinner selections, and I've heard the carrot cake is amazing.
I have been a fan of the food at The Legend for about three years. Almost everything served there is done from scratch. While the lunch a dinner menus are not expansive, that allows for attention to the items that are on the menu. The Lengend generally seems to have a nightly special, and occasional lunch specials during the summer. I have always enjoyed the atmosphere there, and have always had positive interactions/experiences with the wait staff. The carrot cake (mentioned above) is absolutely amazing. The icing/toping on a carrot cake can make or break it - theirs is great.
