Jared hasn't cornered the market on fast, healthy sandwiches. Pick up breakfast on the way to work or grab a healthy lunch in this bright storefront cafe. Watch the world go by along Mass. Ave. with a sandwich at least half as stylish as the artists and fashion-forward fellas from the 'hood.

Curried chicken salad ... mmm

While I don't know if I'd agree with the above Quick Take re: "healthy," Hoaglin has a few standout dishes, including its curried chicken salad sandwich. About half the time, I take the du jour omelette and quiche offerings, generally inventive enough to sample. While it would be great if it had additional square footage for the Sunday brunch rush, the restaurant's decor screams metropolitan casual. Service varies some, depending on who you get and how jammed it is.

My love

This place is it....take any Sunday morning you might find yourself with after a late Saturday night to relax and enjoy the height of breakfast in Indy. Love the space, wait staff, and the of course the food.

Ok, so its....OK

I dined at Hoaglin today for the first time, and I will go back. Lemme preface that...it wasn't bad.

People talk this place up like its the best deli in the world, but I was really disappointed that it could not live up to its hype. The ambiance is cool, I dig the colors and the brightness, it feels warm and is certainly clean and very well kept.

The service...well it is a stretch to call it that. I know the point is to be a quick lunch place, and thats cool, but Patachou has a great service team (for the most part). My service was basically a girl taking my order and dropping my check, she didn't even bring me my food, someone else did...oh and she gave me a refill...lucky for her I am a server and usually have to be offended to not tip, in this case I was just mildly irked. Aside from my waitron's lack of caring, the rest of the staff just chatted their lives away with the goal of making sure the entire restaurant was listening to their lives unfold, something I really loathe.

The food? Pretty off the charts really. The French onion soup was amazing. Initially I was taken aback to see it come out with no cheese on top, a sin in French onion-ry that is unacceptable, but to my delight it was just put in the bottom of the bowl, but the flavor was so good I forgave the transgression. My sandwich was completely unmaneuverable, the chicken and veggies were stacked to high that I could not even begin to get my mouth around it. I settled for the cut and fork method and enjoyed the curried chicken salad. The curry flavor was mild and delightful, the only thing that could improve on the sandwich would be more red onion.

Small Nit-Pick...The soup spoons are entirely too small and make eating soup a tragically messy experience, I felt like such a slob. But to my amusement, a lady at another table mentioned the same thing to the server. (Though I'm sure the comment was lost forever and will never get to management.)

Like I said, I'll go back, but I won't be in a hurry, it's kinda out of my way anyway.
