Today:
The historic Indiana Oxygen Co. building lives on as Jeff Dunaway's fine dining depot. The beautiful art deco building and rooftop view of Downtown helped the restaurant quickly become a destination for local foodies, but the steaks, seafood, 14,000 bottle wine cellar and creative gourmet desserts didn't hurt Dunaway's cause.

I dined at this establishment the other night during winter fest and left the place feeling it was uneventful and lacking. Winter fest is designed to show the public what kind of establishment you have and to create a desire to feel welcome. We were seated next to a window which leaked cold air, while there were plenty of seats available elsewhere. When I tried to make it so the air didn't leak in I was approach by the waitress like I was trying to break something, but instead of fixing the problem she made us feel this was all that was available to us. The salad dressings are limited to those who like ranch types or vinaigrettes. The only steak on the winter fest menu was a flank type which I know is one of the cheapest kind of steaks. So we were forced to eat off the original menus. The food is plain, the atmosphere above average, the service adequate, and the pricing to high for what you receive.
Unfortunately I would'nt give this establishment another chance. Some may like the feel of dining in a cold dungeon. Hate to be so extreme, but in comparison to the other pricey restaurants this one cannot compete. The enviroment was cold and dark. Food was nothing special, no imagination. Almost tasted like dining at a Lone Star, definitely Not in the WoW factor. Oh yes, and certainly not worth the money.
I loved the view of the skyline. While the menu IS pricey, you can get a good appetizer (we had the grilled brushetta for $8) and a salad (I had the wedge for $6 and my husband had the lobster and avocado for $15) and a good red wine, we had a fun time. It felt romantic and relaxed. I think we stayed for almost 2 hours, chatting and drinking in the view last summer.
A Newbie Does Dunaway's
I have always wanted to try dinner at Dunaway's, the South East Street fine-dining establishment created by former St. Elmo Steak House owner Jeff Dunaway. ...
