My wife and I visited the recently opened Badda Boomz (used to be BW3s) on Maryland Street Downtown the other night on a just-us-two (and ...

Went hoping for a nice place to have a drink after work; found bad service, cold food, and watered down drinks. Maybe Wednesday at 6 PM isn't the time to go - but I won't be going back another time to find out. Best thing about my visit was stopping at Vito's on Penn on the way back to work. Save your money, save your time - start at Vito's.
I like my beer like motor oil and my food spicy.
BadaBoomz delivers on both fronts. Of primary consideration to me when selection a fine dining establishment is beer selection followed closely by interesting cuisine.
For anyone who might be a wussy they are one of the few places out there who has Wood Chuck cider on tap and even a beer snob like me must admit it's tasty that way. Moving right along...
So far I've had the Beasty Burger (shared with a friend), it was a damn fine example of the burger building art, taking anything Cheeseburger in Paradise could throw at it. I've honestly never had a BBQ sauce more nicely matched with a bit of cow, jalapenos, onion, and cheese. Perfectly tasty and messy.
The sweet potato chips are also very yummy, but then again I am a sweet potato fiend.
The Cuban sandwich is good, nice and squished and the curry mustard is a fine touch of flare to a traditional dish. It comes with a pickle, I'm not sure why anything would ever come with something so foul and disgusting as a pickle but whatever. I hear people eat them.
The Italian sausage sandwich is...guess what? Spicy and full of sausagie goodness. Lots of cheese, good green peppers on the sandwich, and a side of pepperoncinis. They drip on your chin when you eat them and are little bits of yellow/green heaven I swear.
The Greek Burger is a good, it comes from the Greek. It must be good, I mean it comes with feta on it. That raises anything up a notch on the yummy scale and the banana peppers on it kick it over the top. Mine came with a good deal of feta.
Yeah so I like sandwiches, I've got a thing for bread. I could go on, but for the sake of some brevity I'll just say their sandwiches are some of the best in town and are cooked to perfection.
I hear they serve pizza too, it looks boring. And seriously Ahi Tuna? Yeah that's great, i'll take mine raw and with some sake. My recommendation, get a beer for an appetizer, a sandwich for a meal, and a chocolate beer for desert. If you're in the mood, it's hard to go wrong.

Update: BadaBoomz is no more, now it's J. Gumbo's.
I gave it a try, I won't be going back. It's a chain version of Yats with less cheese and yummy-ness. I know times are hard and people and business owners are strapped for cash, but having a creole chain in a location this big and beautiful is a sad sad thing to do after it's former glory. BadaBoomz had an interesting and fairly inspired menu, this place's menu fits on a chalkboard and feels desolate.
Booooo, I'll be removing it from my favorite places around indy. Hit up Bourbon Street or YATs instead.
BadaBoomz is a great place to find a good burger and cold beer but the service needs some more work. When we first come we went in. we went straight for a table in the bar area to watch the last half of Colts game. It took over 5 minutes until a waitress noticed I was seated by then my inpatient boyfriend went up to the bar and order ourselves some cold Redwood beers. I did ask for some menus and we ordered Calamari (good stuff, marinara sauce is lacking in the spice department), Steak Burger (great burger), and a chick wrap (very good). They didn't have grilled salmon or turkey available that evening. Then some more of our friends enjoyed us to drink some beers and they tried ordering food but the kitchen closed @ 10 o'clock. Bummer. Our 2nd waitress of the evening was very good. She made sure our drinks were never empty. BRAVO!!! I would say that I would go back there again.
If you're downtown, you can't avoid this place. The menu has the usual standards, with a few very well appreciated tasty-but-not-packed-in-grease options. The food runs a distinct second to the beer selection though, which is incredible. There were a few beers on tap which I would find difficult to locate in any liquor store anywhere near Indianapolis (and that includes the Hop Shop).
Having said that, the place seems like it can't make up it's mind if it's a sports bar or a restaurant. The look is kinda off, and it has the obligatory twenty televisions within your field of vision that makes a lotta restaurants in Indy kinda unappealing. Still, it's a great restaurant if you like your beer.
I really enjoy their food, their drinks, but the atmosphere was a tad off, and I think NETSHADE hit the nail on the head - still a sports bar feel of the old (and missed) BW3s and pushing towards being a funky restaurant - love the low seating and coffee table area by the bar. It's got terrific food and an excellent beer selection. We had a great time when we went. Not greasy, and we actually tried the fried egg wrapped in bacon....delish!
After the beer, there isn't much to keep a diner interested. Eclectic food is a welcome change, but only if it's done well. Sadly, that's not the case here. At some point this restaurant will have to stake its claim on one genre or another. In the meantime it seems schizophrenic and without identity. Most places can be easily described as a sports bar, casual dining restaurant, Mexican restaurant, etc. but BadaBoomz defies description.
I was pretty impressed with their beer menu and they do have a variety of food choices. We had the onion rings for an appetizer and they were probably the best I've had. Very large and very thick. I do agree with another review that they really don't have an identity as to whether they are a sports bar or good restaurant but it didn't bother me too much. The price wasn't outrageous so I would probably go back here to try something else.
Pretty decent fair, good when you want something different from what the mall offers for a relatively decent price, but it doesn't compare to Yats. What happened to BadaBoomz?
The fact that this is a CHAIN from Louisville should be your first clue. Granted, not too many people in central Indiana have any idea what real canjun or creole is. This place is a joke. The roux is not made fresh (store bought), same for the olive spread on the Muffaletta. They use panini bread instead of traditional italian round roll on Mufaletta. No Po Boys, No Debris, Gumbo is awful, as is the Etoufee. Went in at lunch time on a Friday....no one in the place. Will be out of business by the end of the summer.
indyjetdrivers review is funny. I smell a Yats employee. You are spouting the kind of information a repeat customer would. Since you supposedly ate their and did not enjoy it, one would assume you made one visit. How did you get so much information in that one visit? I have been there twice. There are Po Boys on the menu. The Bumblebee Stew is much better than Yats' B+B. The Etoufee was good, however I still prefer Yats' Chili Cheese Etoufee. They serve alcohol and are open much later than Yats would ever dare.
indyjetdriver does sound like a Yats homer. I love Yats and J.Gumbo's. Guess what. They're both chains! Yats has 5 locations and is under construction in Chicago. How dare Joe expand and become a chain and be successful. Anyway, I love the voodoo chicken at J.Gumbo's as well as all the other items except for the gumbo. It's a bit strong for me. By the way indyjetdriver, the muffaletta is served on a focaccia bun. I doubt you even went there since there are po'boys on the menu as well. I do like having a quality micro with my cajun.
Lunch is da bombz
In the space where Buffalo Wild Wings once stood in Downtown Indy, there is now a new joint to be explored. BadaBoomz Ale House and ...
