Turkey has been the site of cultural clashes between Europe and Asia for more than 1,000 years -- the Bosphorus Strait cleaves the two continents. This tidal wash of cultures has created a national cuisine that blends Arab kabobs with the cremes and cheeses of Mediterranean Europe. Enjoy the results in this cozy converted house just North of the interstate.

Absolutely Wonderful!!!

We came upon this restaurant while driing around aimlessly trying to find some place different to eat. And boy did we get lucky!!! This is one of the best, if not "THE" best restaurants that I have been to in Indianapolis. It's basically styled like a small house -- with beautiful decor, and hand-painted floors. They offer an extensive menu - which the wait staff is more than happy to describe in detail. The food - from the humus to the desserts, were outstanding! I can't wait to take friends/family there! It's surely a place that impresses. The menu offered a wide variety for tastes and budgets.

The Best Meal I've had In months at Bosphorus

It's hard to relate in words how good the dish I had yesterday at Bosphorus was. It was the Beef Hummus dinner. It was a sort of succulent beef stew with peppers and veggies served on a place with a ring of hummus and crushed almonds around the edge of the plate. It was heavenly. The veggies were fresh and tasty, I wasn't so sure about the almonds but they were a perfect counterpoint in the dish. Mmmm.

My partner had the Beyti Kebab, which was ground beef and lamb patties served inside lavish bread. It was also very very tasty. Both meals were huge portions and perfectly presented and seasoned. Definite attention to detail.

The service was impeccable, we didn't order any appetizers so they brought us a bit of hummus and a basket of pita because my meal came with hummus anyway. A friendly and appreciated gesture. I chatted with the staff after our meal for a good fifteen minutes.

They have an excellent website with menu here: http://www.bosphoruscafe.com/

The menu is large and there are vegetarian dishes that I've been told are excellent.

This place is well worth the visit.

A Mid-day Haven

I'd driven by Bosphorus a good handful of times before today, each time making mental note to stop by sometime. After my lunch today, it's skyrocketed to one of my favorite lunch spots downtown. A return trip is now a moral imperative, rather than an item dangling precariously on the bottom of my to-do list.

Nestled quietly off East Street just past the Domont Gallery, Bosphorus seems unassuming at first. Do not be fooled. The location's interior is gorgeous: hanging tapestries, tiled ceilings, painted floors; and the food was astounding. I sampled the Chicken Couscous and a good dollop of one of my lunch-mates hummus. Prices were reasonable and portions were more than adequate. (my chicken was served with an array of vegetables all in a light curry sauce with a side of steamed couscous and small salad).

The wait staff was courteous and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and/or recommend this place to friends and family!

Extremely Magical: Bosphorus

Last night was my first time experiencing the magical wonders of Bosphorus, and it definitely won't be my last. This place really is a hidden treasure; it's such a quaint, lushly decorated, and welcoming place! The friendliness of the comedic staff is an experience in itself; they won't hesitate to explain and give their honest opinion (whether positive OR negative) of anything on their menu, and getting to know you personally throughout the evening seems to be their ultimate goal.

The food is outstanding. It's almost mandatory that you order the appetizer combo and try the eggplant salsa and hummus. I sampled from four different plates last night with my partners in crime, and all were simply delicious. For meat lovers, there's everything from Eggplant stuffed with beef to Chicken Couscous, and for you weird vegetable-only lovers out there, the Turkish Delight and unique salads are, indeed, delightful.

If you're lucky, you may get to sing for your dessert! We had some outstanding Baklava and even had a personal magic show performed for our pleasure. Overall, it was an outstanding experience, and I'm going to recommend it to everyone I know. You should go! :D

A gem of a place

This is a remarkable place. I don't want too many people to discover it! I have not had one thing on the menu that wasn't superb! And there are a lot of places that can learn about hospitality from the owners here. They treat you as if you are a long lost friend visiting from the homeland. Check them out!

Had lunch there today...

...based upon this review. I had the lunch special ($8.50). It included an appetizer (I had the hummus...very good) and the chicken kabob (also good). Fantastic, change of pace restaurant. I've been to Turkey twice and the food wasn't this good at any of the places I went there.

Who Knew...

...that there was a fabulous Turkish restaurant here in Indianapolis! Everything we had was delicious. And you won't find a better homemade flat bread ANYWHERE!

Heaven on a plate.

This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Nice atmosphere, personable servers, FANTASTIC food. The menu is large and varied, with plenty of options for everyone, including vegetarians. The Borek appetizer (feta cheese in crispy rolled Phyllo dough) is out of this world, and any of the meat dishes as an entree would be a good choice--you really cannot go wrong. The staff are happy to help recommend items and to tell interestig stories about their homeland. It can be slightly on the pricey side at dinner, but less expensive for lunch and coupons are readily available in the ZooBook and on www.restaurant.com.

MMM, Hummus.

It's been raved about, and I shall rave some more. FABULOUS! The decor is amazing (and according to the owner, was suprisingly there when he bought the place!), the owner and staff v. helpful and friendly. They'll go over the menu with you, they have a lot of really great vegitarian options, meat and fish options, great appitizers and def. get the baklava. Hand made there in the resturant and not the greek kind you may be used to, it's a bit sweeter. It's def. a resturant you should check out!

Foodgasm

The owner is so wonderful and he will feed you until you burst and after that, you will still order more hummus....hopefully to go...

Try their wines and the dark beer.
