Today:
There are several places to get pizza by the slice downtown, but you can only get a slice of Quattro formaggio from these jokers. Slammed at lunch, busy at dinner, Bazbeaux has been an anchor during Mass. Ave.'s resurgence.
I really like the dining flexibility Bazbeaux's offers. Need something quick and ready to go? Pop in and grab a slice for lunch. Or perhaps you have some friends in town and you're looking for a restaurant unique to Indy? Sit down, order some drinks, ask for the famous quattro formaggio and enjoy the atmosphere.
I love hanging out here at an outside table, with a DIY pizza (chorizo is so yummy), a salad with house-made creamy-basil dressing, a cold bottle of beer and good friends on a balmy night. Makes me feel like I'm on vacation in my own city.
I love Bazbeaux as much as anyone else, but my coworkers and I have repeatedly run into problems when we send in an order for pickup. Frequently people are given the wrong salad dressings, and by the time you're back in the office, you are out of luck. Or, a pizza has a mixed up topping.
Also, the leisurely atmosphere is nice -- unless you are at an outside table and want your drink refilled.
The fantastic combinations of ingredients and the cache of Mass Ave. make this location work so well. I'll keep going, of course, but the service is not always perfect.
My wife and two kids (2 and 3 mos.) had a luncher at Bazbeaux today, and it was a great experience. We got a great piece of the downtown lunch bustle, but the service was faster than McDonald's. For $13 me, my wife, and my son all noshed heartily on the best pizza you can buy in Indianapolis. We have been there for dinner many times and expected to drop $30 for lunch, and were pleasantly surprised by the express line. I missed my Quattro Formaggio (hold the mushrooms, add pepperoni), but the pepperoni pizza, salad and drink I got was a steal for that price. Plus there was a staff member there to take our trays for us the moment we were ready to go!
A slice of 'za, a salad and drink for 5 dinero! That my friends is a spectacular lunch!
I love that Muffaletta sandwich so hot and toasty! The great thing about Basbeaux Pizza is that everyone can agree that the pizza is awesome and the selection is incomparable. This makes it so easy to get a group of people together without squabbling for an hour where to go.
Yes we do! Living in a world of PaPa's and Domono's it is a shame the chain masses don't understand what an upper crust pie is. The atmosphere is artsy and eclectic with a fantabulous aroma! Servisc is mostly FAB, and the food is worthy of a backflip. Parking can sometimes be chalanging but worth it. Take time out and visit ASAP. Give your dollar to local establishments and not to out of state industrialized chains!
"Bazbeaux isn't really pizza" is one of the truest things I've ever heard about their exotic 'stuff on a bread disk' creations. Of course their pizza is good, the usual you know with tomato paste and cheese and some veggies, or even just the cheese.
Hopefully though, that's not why you go to Bazbeaux. Their real attraction, the pièce de résistance at Bazbeaux are the speciality pies.
The Mexican Pizza is a thing of beauty. Literally, it's all yellow and green and pretty. The only way it bears any resemblances to traditional pizza is in its presentation. The toppings are heaping and if you'll forgive the cliche, it's a fiesta in your mouth. Doesn't that sound pleasant now?
How about that neptune with crab, shrimp, and snow pea pods or the Napoli with tasty little capers and anchovies (it's fairly pizza like).
Sun dried tomatoes are good on almost anything and the Muffalatta, while it doesn't remind me of my time in N'orleans, is crunchy and satisfying.
Skip the pepperoni and sausage go wild.
Everyone else speaks the truth it is great pizza. The only other local pizza restaurant I'd put up there is Puccini's. Don't make it down to Bazbeaux's too often but every time I have it was great.
When I lived downtown THIS is the place my mom would drag me (NOT kicking and screaming, mind you) with my sisters when she wanted to get a quick bite to eat. LOVE their pizza. Best stuff in town, really.
Alhtough its kinda pricey at the evening, if your working hard downtown stop over to mass ave and get some good pizza on the cheap.
this place has good pizza but the service is truly lacking...i am all for having fun on the job..but keep in mind you are there to serven the customers not to talk to your coworkers...
At one time, I used to like Bazbeaux's pizza. What happened? The last time I was there it was no better than Domino's. My husband was also disappointed. It just really had no flavor. I had to put salt on the pizza to make it taste like anything.
I much prefer the pizza at WBs at the intersection of Allisonville and 62nd. The sauce is to die for, and the ultra thin crust is marvelous. And the pepperoni is MUCH better tasting.
After my last experience, I will no longer be patronizing Bazbeaux's.
After going for the first time to this resteraunt, I must say and I do have mixed feelings about it. I got there about 8pm on saturday and had about a 15 minute wait, which for any place downtown is not too bad. I was glad that there was decent seating in the waiting area. It was bussy and being able to see the kitchen from the waiting area helped get over the actual wait. The hosteses were very occomodating when we had to add a person at the last minute. When we sat down, the server was far from the best we have ever had. He was not rude, but seemed to do just enough to take care of our table. Most good servers I have had make you feel comfortable and are very occomodating. I did not feel that when he came to the table.
The food was good, and I did enjoy the various options with the salads and pizzas. The food did kind of offset the service. When it came time for the bill, we had to send a member of our party to hunt down the server which is never fun.
I will probably go back, but it may be a few months.
It's a good pizza, but I still prefer Jockamo's pizza, service, and community charm. I'll probably still go back to Bazbeaux every once in a while, but I won't go out of my way to drive there. Going for dinner is somewhat pricey and we had an incredibly long wait with not the best service. I'll give it another try though, and maybe I'd enjoy it more for lunch.
This is a great place and I should go there more often. It is so versatile. I started out meeting friends there for lunch. I would take dates there for a casual evening and now my wife and I take our kids there for a treat. The food is always predictably good. The menu is pretty simple which I think is a bonus. Nothing about Bazbeaux's overwhelms a person and I mean that as a compliment.
My family and I went for Mother's Day lunch. I know it's not what you would normally expect, but that's what she wanted. It wasn't that crowded and we were seated immediately. The server was polite, but a little slow on drink refills and check-ins. The mood is relaxed, so we weren't in much of a rush anyway. We had a BBQ chicken pizza and the margherita pizza. Both were fantastic. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. The price was very reasonable for a 6 person lunch.
How can a trip downtown be complete without a slice of their delicious pizza? Apparently other people must agree because this place is usually packed! They have many different types of pizza which are all awesome. If you are downtown and want some pizza, make sure to stop by Bazbeaux's
Local landmark
One of my favorite meals of all time: red wine and Bazbeaux's Quattro Formaggio. I generally take the pizza to go, since the place is rather packed on most nights (and I'm not one for waits). For a less filling variation, try the tasty Bayou Chicken instead of the Quattro.
