Palomino's occupies prized real estate in Indianapolis' culinary country. The regional American cuisine appeals to lunchtime power brokers, but this horsey also suits night owls in search of upscale cocktails.
For years, Palomino was always my first choice for a downtown dinner. I adore their crusted scallops and have always enjoyed the atmosphere. During my last visit, however, my feelings were abruptly and permanently changed. Complete with a reservation, myself and five other girlfriends settled in for what we hoped would be an enjoyable, leisurely dinner. We ordered martinis and starters, main courses and two bottles of wine, and after dinner ports and other digestifs. We had been in the restaurant for approximately 95 minutes when our server asked if we'd mind moving to 'a table on the patio', in other words, a picnic table on Maryland St. where patrons typically wait for tables. I asked the server who made him propose this move to us, to which he responded, "Well, we only allot seventy minutes per table on Friday nights and we need this table." Naturally, we left the restaurant, after speaking with the host staff who were snarky and pretentious about our dissatisfaction. Overall, needless to say, we were less than satisfied with the service and will not be returning.
You simply cannot beat Palomino's nightly pizza + cocktail deal of $10 pizzas (any on the menu) and $3 drinks.
Just make sure you get to the bar before 6 p.m. to enjoy this scrumptious deal! My dining partner and I almost missed out because we thought we could get it sitting in the restaurant area (don't make that mistake).
Every one of the gourmet pizzas is delish and filling - and the cosmos are a tangy delight!
This is the perfect cheap, Italian date!
I recently went there for a late lunch and it couldn't have been better. The lunch combos offered a variety of choices for a reasonable amount. I had the half sandwich and salad. The portions were generous and the food was wonderful. The place was empty around 2 in the afternoon, so the service was expectedly prompt. I probably wouldn't go there everyday due to the price, but it was nice for a change.
Great food and atnosphere
I go to Palomino frequently for lunch meetings, after work happy hour or to grab a quick drink before the theatre or a show. Palomino has a great menu and the service and food are always consistent. Wait staff are very attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend Palomino.
