Add this venue's events to my calendar
I went over the Thanksgiving weekend an was pleasantly surprised by the museum's quality. The Impressionists selection is especially good and it was nice to see a trio of Kandinskys as well in the modern European section.
I only made it about a third of the way through everything, but was really pleased with the atmosphere, works on display and just about everything. It's a great way to spend an afternoon.
And, besides, it's free ... totally free. What's not to love?
Being new to the Indy area, I really couldn't believe that the IMA was free! I especially enjoy the outdoor gardens and paths. Could probably spend a whole day viewing the art (and still not get through everything), and then a totally separate day just enjoying the outdoors of the museum. I've also attended a few special events there with the Spirit and Place festival and it was an excellent venue to host these special attractions.
Most of the museum is now free, which makes it much more accessible to the general public. Memberships are still very reasonable and include tickets to special galleries and functions. The renovations have really taken this museum to another level. I would highly recommend making a day of the museum and surrounding grounds. Pack a picnic lunch and you will be set for a great day.
Must Attraction
This is a GREAT musuem to attend. There is no cost unless you are attending the special events section of the musuem. When we attended we had the great pleasure to see the renovation of a painting from 1507 being done. We even got to talk to the person during the restoration!
This is a must see!
