The architecture and decor's strong Gaelic and Celtic themes tweak casual dining chain conventions. Claddagh's celebration of Irish culture (and spirits) ensure strong bar sales.
The first thing I was struck with was the comfortableness and warmth that is projected when entering this establishment, the waiting area doubles as additional seating or you can opt to eat your meal their which makes this feel as if it someone's den. The food thus far has been great, the mussels are the best I have ever had and the stuffed pork chops are just outstanding. When you add some fresh Guinness on tap you really have a great meal at an affordable price. Keep in mind since this is a smoking establishment children are not allowed. Even though smoking is allowed the smoke does not take over the building but rather adds to the overall relaxing environment
The woody interior is a lot of fun and rather rustic. There's a giant circular bar that dominates the center of the restaurant and has a good selection of beverages on tap. They've even got Strongbow on tap for you non-beer drinkers.
I wish there was more booth and chair seating. A large part of the restaurant's seating consists of little short stools or big tall stools. The ambience they lend the place is nice, but man I like a back on my chairs when I'm relaxing. Otherwise I tend to fall over.
The fish and chips is of course some of the best you can get anywhere and the tartar sauce is sooooo good it goes well with the fries too. The meat-loaf sandwich is another one of my personal favorites.
I've never had a bad server or hostess here, they really are spot on. I'd give them a 4.5 if I could.
Guinness Good.
It was our first trip to a Claddagh ever. We certainly picked the wrong thing off the menu because we didn't go back for a long time. It took my sister to get me to go back and try something different. I believe I had the Sheppard's Pie and I just didn't care for it. I also didn't care for the stools with no backs instead of chairs. I went with my sister to the Plainfield location and they had chairs so I was much happier there. But the atmosphere was different from any place I had been so that made it fun. I know what to order now if anyone wants to go back. The Five Points Turkey Club is excellent. The Monte Cristo is good if you like sweet stuff for your meal. My sister's favorite is the Balsamic Chicken, I have yet to try it, but I'll take her word, she's picky. The Cheddar Ale Sauce is good to dip your stuff in too.
With the imminent arrival of Saint Patrick's Day, I'm sure the Claddaugh will be hopping. Must Try Me's include: The fish & chips (of course), the Fried Brie platter, and the Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner. All must be enjoyed with a full pint of Guinness...topped attractively with the head-y shamrock, as all good Guinness should be.
Guinness VERY Good...
The Claddagh allways provides a fun atmosphere and a great beer on tap.
I love the huge wooden tables.
Fish and Chips
If you haven't already done so, stop in to Claddagh and order up the Fish and Chips. It's simple and it's good.
