Today:
Forget you're in Indy at a well-worn juke joint doesn't need to dress itself up to impress. Enjoy spirits, NOLA-style vittles and live music inside or on the double-decker wrap-around porch. Have a good time but please don't throw any beads off the balcony.
Forget you're in Indy at this double-decker 'Nawlins-style jazz joint. Good vittles and good suds are served inside, on the sidewalk or upstairs on the outside balcony, which, by the way, you should refrain from throwing beads from it.

Bourbon street is a definite must-visit. The food is always good but its best feature is the building's character. It's in a great location, off the beaten path of downtown, but still integrated with the fun-loving crowds.
I love Bourbon Street! I go here all the time. I love the Bourbon Street Salad and the Cajun Burger!!! I think I could eat their food everyday for a year and never get sick of it. Its a great place to eat if you have a big group of people. I think everyone needs to experience Bourbon Street!
Great menu and the specials change frequently. Check out Kia at the upstairs bar.
Sitting out on the balcony at Bourbon St. drinking a beer and downing a pulled pork bbq sandwich is practically a Spring rite of passage for my group of friends. When those first warm evenings roll around, we almost instinctively meet up there after work. We are particularly partial to $1 beer nights on Mondays.
Besides the pulled pork, I've also had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and the Tenderloin sandwich, and they have all been delicious. All of the portions are MASSIVE...each sandwich comes with a cup of slaw and a heaping plate of fries...and you'll most likely have some left over for lunch the next day.
My only complaint is related to what seems to be a constantly overwhelmed wait staff. When you're eating something with spicy buffalo sauce on it, it becomes crucial to have a beverage on hand. And more often than not, it's like pulling teeth to get them to return to the table once the food has been delivered. Whether this would require more staff or just a little more hustle and attentiveness from the existing staff is debatable.
Overall, the delicious food, lively atmosphere, and the outdoor seating make it a necessary Downtown experience.
Awesome appetizers and decently priced drinks for a great locale. Go at an unpopular time to avoid the sardine effect. It gets loud quickly with lots of people upstairs!
I can't speak for the food but something about that balcony gets me itchin' for a drink on a warm spring day every January and then I have to wait a couple of months until the weather catches up with my mindset. Everyone should go there and sit on the balcony in the warmth of the sun atleast once a year (weather permitting) to enjoy a good cocktail.
Good spot to sit outside and people watch. Inside is spacious, but laid out a little oddly. I've only been for drinks, so I can't comment on the food. The area we had drinks had several couches and was kind of secluded, which was nice. Overall it was a very nice time. I can't recall any drink specials though.
Love Me Some Bourbon Street
Bourbon Street is as close as I can easily get to being back in my favorite city in the u.S. Sitting down with a Po-Boy and an Abita brings tears to my eyes as I reminisce about strolling down Magazine Street.
While I can't strut through Indy hitting cultural attraction after cultural attraction with flask in hand. This sure ain't bad. (PS I've found strutting in Indy is severely frowned upon. Canes, bowler hats, and cigars draw stares and worse here. My bowler sits in waiting)
The foods good, the atmosphere inside the place is nice and the simple tables and exposed brick are very New Orleans-esque. Hell for a while there was a run down, who knows what spattered, couch sitting on end behind the joint, which was also very New Orleans-esque.
In the summer sitting out on the balcony is a treat and a killer touch. You've should remember though the rest of the world can see you up there as they pass you by. I've gotten a few interesting comments from people who've seen me up there as they motored to their destination. (note to self don't wear long sleeve shirts and a hat in 85 degree weather, people think it's strange.)
It's really not a five star cream of the crop sort of place, but there's not doubt I'll go back again and again.
