Generations of Downtown workers have rubbed elbows in this pub. Outdoor seating is available if you need to escape the confines of your cubicle, but inside the "Room" is actually split between an open dining area and a bar with tall tables. Classy takes on standard sandwiches, soups and salads fill the menu and your belly.

Burgers w/ personality

If I'm in the mood for a burger, I generally think of two local restaurants Downtown: Ralph's and The Elbow Room. At the latter, there are two choices I rely on: (1) The Elbow Room Burger, (sauteed onions, hot pepper cheese, Cajun spices, on Texas toast) and (2) the Black & Bleu Burger (blue cheese, bacon). Both are served to order, and I'm rarely disappointed. For something lighter, the strawberry chicken salad is a winner.

If you can, I'd opt for a seat in the bar area vs. the dining room. Oh, and the bar upstairs still seems to remain a secret in the city, although they did a nice job remodeling a couple of years back and features billiards and more.

If you're in a rush, it's a crapshoot if you can get in-and-out during a weekday lunch hour. Frequently, there's a wait for a table.

Yum!

I've gone to the Elbow Room for at least 10 years..? I love it...anything. Used to eat their veggie sandwich, but they don't serve it anymore...I like that they use a lot of cream cheese on stuff mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. They also do a good burrito. Let's leave now! I'm hungry!

Best. Chicken fingers. Ever.

Elbow Room has fantastic burgers and quite possibly the best crispy chicken fingers I've ever had. I always get them with an extra cup of honey mustard sauce...it's a delicious (if not entirely healthy) lunch!

If you're not down with the chicken fingers, their burgers are right up there too, and even their salads will fill you up quite satisfyingly. Add in a friendly and (usually) fast staff, and you've got a great spot for lunch.

Simply delicious

I just moved to Indianapolis and noticed 'Elbow Room' was very close to our apartment. I had no idea it was anymore than a tiny bar until I went there for lunch with a client. I was absolutely impressed with the Strawberry Salad. It's like summer and spring combined on a plate. From the fruit to the cheese, the sugared walnuts, the chicken and the dressing it was delicious. All of the flavors worked wonderfully together. I've been craving another one ever since. Can't wait to go back!

I also need to mention that I rarely like salad, it sounded so good on the menu I couldn't say no (and boy am I glad I didn't!).

Good food, spotty service

I've generally enjoyed the food at the elbow room. I had a burger w/blue cheese & bacon yesterday, and it was pretty good, but the burger had too much of a burned/charred taste for my liking. The service is hit or miss. I once waited 45 minutes for my check after I asked the waitress for it (and reminder her).

Elbow Room - I don't think so

The food here isn't even mediocre. Watch KITCHEN NIGHTMARES this Wed., and you'll see what I'm talking about ("mediocrity" is like a disease in the majority of Indy's indie restaurants). Of course, ELBOW ROOM is owned by a big company, so they don't care about anything but the bottom line.

Love It!

They have the best sandwiches and it is a nice place to relax and dine with friends. I love to stop in on my lunch hour or after work. If you have not been, I recommend you try it. The hot sicilian sandwich is a tasty treat!

Good food

This is a great place to come for lunch and hand out with friends/co-workers. It is what it the name says, "elbow room" only....
