Indiana pizza!
Pizza King is what I like to call Indiana-style pizza. Everyone knows what Chicago-style and New York-style pizza is like, but Pizza King is definitely a Midwest experience. From their salty, thin-crust dough to their shredded and ground topping that cover every square inch of pizza surface, there's nothing quite like Pizza King.
I remember when I was a kid, my family would drive an hour or two for a Pizza King dinner as we didn't have one in our home town. To this day, pizza is my favorite food, and I'll eat pretty much any kind of pizza from any place in town, but if I have my choice of any pizza joint in the state, I'm heading to Pizza King. Or Gabe's Pizza in Kokomo, which is a similar mom and pop joint (with superior strombolis to anyplace else in the state).
Not everyone gets Pizza King, but those who do are faithful for life and passionate about their pizza. The restaurant I usually go to these days is the one in Avon where the trains bring your drinks to your table and each booth has a TV.
