Today:
The lounge and patio serve the skyline on a silver platter; the main dining room can't compete, or maybe by design was steered clear of a showdown. It's a room verging on an identity crisis: Edgy art currently fills wall space (exhibits of Indiana artists' work will rotate) in a room otherwise aggressively traditional, down to its brass-tacked leather chairs and the scroll designs on the carpet.
I've been here on several occasions, both at the Tavern at the top and at the cafe just below it. The cafe is an excellent place for lunch. I seldom get appetizers, but the smoked salmon cream cheese appetizer looked too good to pass up. I highly recommend the cafe for lunch.
The Tavern at the Temple was excellent on our visit. In fairness, I went on a Thursday night, so it wasn't exceedingly busy. The menu changes frequently, but our food was excellent. We had an appetizer, two dinners, and a totel of two cocktails and our meal was $82, including tax and tip.
Not cheap, but not ridiculous. It's a nice change of pace from the standard.
We went here for a friend's birthday party in November, when the restaurant had just opened. We had a group of about 9 or so and made reservations in advance. For our first impression, the hostess was very snotty to us. The our server had no clue what she was doing. She forgot things (a LOT of things), messed up orders, took forever, and just seemed to be very confused. She was very nice, but not at all helpful and not the kind of service you expect from a higher class restaurant.
The managers came out and talked to us though, took the thing that were messed up off the bill and bought us dessert. They were very friendly, and handled the situation well. The drinks were excellent (the best cosmo I've ever had) and the food was good. The one thing wrong with the menu was there was no vegetarian option. I have heard they do have one now though, so it's not really that big of a deal.
The atmosphere was absolutely gorgeous!! This is mostly due to the huge windows overlooking the canal. There is a porch out there that I can't wait to sit at in the summer.
We had sort of a screwy first visit, but I am def willing to give them another chance.
We hit this spot up for the first time on Friday for a reseverd party in the bar area. The atmosphere was awesome! It will be a great place to go to when it get nice outside. The view of the canal and the downtown skyline is killer. We didn't eat, so I can't really so much about the food. The bartenders didn't seem to be very friendly, I don't think they were expecting as many people to be there. The one downside would be the construction going on around it for Clarion, I believe. That might but a damper on sitting outside until it is finish. If nothing else you should at least stop in for a drink and check the building out.
Took family there for Father's Day brunch and was absolutely amazed. We sat outside, overlooking the canal, and enjoyed every minute. The service was without comparison. Our main server was very friendly and attentive. I was very impressed that other servers would routinely ask if we needed anything as they passed by, instead of the normal "it's not my table/problem" routine. I found the buffet very reasonably priced ($25) compared to other brunches offered on Father's Day. The food was incredible and included a wide variety of choices. I can't wait to go back again!
Dining review: Tavern at the Temple
