Today:
A brightly colored kabob cafe.
I think they have created a formula for success at the Kabob Korner. Their menu is limited, but filled with delicious, high-quality and affordable dishes. I believe the owner's previous restaurant was Kabul's, which was wonderful and original cuisine, but a bit pricey. I think he cut back on overhead expenses and kept the quality of the cuisine.
I would recommend the Manto, which was a dumpling filled with spiced meat and covered with a creamy sauce. My friends also mentioned the kabobs were tender and spiced nicely.
After closing Kabul, the more formal Afghan restaurant he operated for 18 years, Nasir Ayoubi and a partner opened a little something entirely different -- ...
Kabob Korner is falling in line with a new fad Tasty & Simple. Good food for a reasonable price is what the Kabob Korner is all about.
Although the surroundings are clean, the place feels sterile compared to the owner's previous Kabul Restaurant.
The food is still fantastic, however. The Aush soup, drizzled with yogurt on top, is mandatory. Then split a serving of Kurma Chalow and a serving of Manto with someone, so you can eat some of both. (I miss the combo platter of the old place!).
The rice is always seasoned to perfection, and a dollop of the owner's special chutney on your entree and pita bread complete the scene. The kebabs are also great, and make a great choice if you have kids to feed as well.
If you are the least bit adventurous in dining, enough to venture past the chain restaurants, you must try Kabob Korner.
As I walked into Kabob Korner for the first time, I was greeted by the owner working behind the counter, ethnic music playing in the background, and a wonderful aroma wafting from the kitchen. I knew this was going to be a great lunch - and I was not disappointed! The service was fast and friendly, the atmosphere was pleasing and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. I will be back and I will be telling my friends about it!
My girlfriend and I tried the Kabob Korner for the first time a few weeks ago and I wanted to recommend it... I was impressed with the whole experience and am eager to return.
The owner warmly welcomed us (it was late afternoon and we were the only customers there). As we were deciding between the tasty-looking choices, he helped us with some descriptions and pronunciations. I felt assured that even if we didn't like what we ordered he'd have tried to make it right. That wasn't a problem - we were both extremely pleased with our dishes!
I had the beef-filled dumplings in a wonderful sauce (one slightly spicy red - and then there was a cooling, creamy sauce drizzled on top of that). The dish came with well-prepared, delicious rice on the side and I spiced it up a bit more with hot sauce that was at the counter. My attractive companion went with a chicken dish that was topped with slivered almonds and raisins I tried a bit and it was seriously soooo good. An amazing sauce, quality pieces of chicken, served over more of that rice.
I'm looking forward to going back for their kabobs for an order of that amazing chicken dish for myself and even to try some lamb (not something I'd normally go for, but the owner and the experience made me feel comfortable that it would be on the same [high] level).
Check em out!
((and by the way - get some baklava we took two pieces home and it was some of the best I can remember trying))
Two for $20: Kabob Korner
Aren't friends great? A mutual pal of "friend Jen" and me recommended Kabob Korner in the Castleton area. My skepticism of such a generic-sounding place ...
