Awkward set up, sullen teenage cashiers. Dry chicken fingers, greasy everything else. The "fixins" bar was a joke, 1 bottle of hot sauce, 1 bottle of steak sauce, a tub of thousand island dressing, and ketchup and mayo in packets. I could have went to the White Castle right next door and had a better selection of "fixins" Don't waste your time or money.
ecull6, you must have been there on a bad night. I always have a good experience there. Their chicken fingers are my favorite. Never dry for me. They recently changed to packets of ketchup, and I'm not happy about that part. They used to have pumps of all the condiments and that rocked, don't know why they changed. I love their burgers too. I'm not real fond of their fries, they remind me of Burger King's fries, those are icky. Main reason I don't go to BK. So I just get the homemade chips. Or the sweet potato fries, very tasty!
The owner used to work to be an airline mechanic and lost his job when United closed. He always wanted to open up a restaurant so this is his one shot. It's not a chain, it's just one guy giving the restaurant biz a chance and I think he's doing pretty darn good myself! I love how the place is decorated. Western themed out, feels like you are in Arizona somewhere.
Keep on driving...that would be my recommendation. The place did not strike me as clean or organized. For the prices they charged it would have been nice to have an actual waiter/waitress instead of ordering at the front. The food came out quickly and that was the last time I saw an employee until we left. The food was fine, but nothing spectacular. In comparison, Famous Dave's served similar style food but was better across the board.
We tried this place out with the hopes of being able to support another locally owned restaurant against the crashing tide of TGIMcFunsters that have turned Indy into "Chain-Restaurant Capitol, USA." Well, I'm afraid they need some major work to get me to come back. There is a disconnect between the prices and the quality/quantity of food. The burgers were so-so and not very flavorful and I detest "fixin's bars" with a passion. The stuff offered was nothing to write home about and it was obvious it had been sitting out all afternoon with little attention. Limp, lifeless and once again, flavorless.
The sides were expensive and short on quantity. So, even with a generous coupon, I spent way more than I would have for a couple of juicy, flavorful bacon burgers and sides at Grindstone Charley's.
There are far better burgers to be had in Indy. If the owners want it fixed... email me... I'll show you how to make and price great burgers and sides and make your place something to remember.
YEE-HAW!!!!
This place is a great hide-a-way. Soon to be famous they just won "The Best Hamburger" Award from Channel 6 WRTV/ A-LIST. Map on website
