Cool concept but just ok

Great atmosphere, cool concept long overdue in Indy. Although there is a lot of variety, the number of choices can be a little overwhelming. The past several times I've been our group just had our waiter bring his top tapas favorites. I've been about five times and noticed that tapas have not been prepared consistently. Twice they ran out of bread. Dining in the evening is VERY noisy so if you go with a large group be prepared to shout. Prices seem a little high for the value.

Very Nice!

This is a very fun place to go. For those of you who don't know at Tapas you order small mini portions of food that come out when they are done. And they are to be shared. So it's like a whole evening of aptz. So if you have friends or with a group of people who might be werid about sharing then this is not the place for you! But if you don't mind to share, with others, this is a place for you!

BARcelona Tapas Bar

Everything I've ever had has been good. Atmosphere is festive ... a tad loud ... but definitely a more sophisticated crowd. All pluses.

BARcelona Tapas Bar

Great place and in a much needed location, the northeast side of downtown has needed something like this for some time. Love the food and the cost is a bit high but it's not sandwiches so why do we think we should be paying sandwiches prices? The staff could do a little better job of explaining the idea behind tapas. A few of the people at my work have gone and completely missed that it's a 'sharing' kind of place. I remember watching an episode Cook Tour about tapas and thinking that it sucks that I would have to travel to Spain/Portugal to try that. Great to see a new type of eating experience in town!

Nice break from same old

First, kudos to BARcelona for transforming a former Burger King into a visually rich and welcome addition to that corner of Downtown.

Lila and I gave overwhelming thumbs up to the Queso de Cabra al Horno, a tasty blend of tomato sauce and goat cheese (served with garlic bread). We also tried the Tortilla Espanola (a cold potato / onion omelette) and Solomillo con Cabrales (tenderloin with blue cheese in a Rioja reduction sauce); neither were as exciting but worth sampling.

As for the drinks, I'll probably pass on both the sangria and tequila martini next time I head to BARcelona and stick to beer, soda or wine sans fruit. I don't think there was anything necessarily "off" about the sangria; it's just nothing that I'll be craving anytime soon.

The service was friendly and knowledgeable about all the items we asked about; I might suggest a pre-emptive, "Have you dined with us before?" before diners try to navigate through the menu.

For tapas virgins, I would also take a look at their menus before going.

And in the interest of being a good indy.com-er, a few other links that are on the site about BARcelona:

Very glad it's here...

My wife and were happy to see a nice tapas place open in Indy... long overdue. We have been several times and have enjoyed each visit. We always make sure we leave room for deserts... which we believe are the best items on the menu. We want get some friends together and go as a larger group so we can sample MANY of the items on the menu.

An interesting note... our last visit we noticed the girls significantly outnumbered the boys. Come on fellas... small portions won't kill ya! Skip the mound o' wings (will kill ya) and work on rolling your R's.... opportunity may be knockin'!

Different is Good, but it's just alright

I've eaten at Barcelona around four times and I think I've had my fill. The concept is great, the execution is good, but something leaves me wanting. I always end up with heartburn to boot.

It really is a lot of fun sharing with your friends and having six or seven little dishes. The staff has always been great and very knowledgeable about the menu.

I'd have to push the place to the lower end of the bang for your buck scale.

For crying out LOUD

I was so excited to try this place but my first experience was an unfortunate one. The food was okay - definitely not over-the-top but not terrible either. However, it was so unbearably loud in the restaurant. It made communication at our table frustrating. Even worse, it made communication with our server troublesome. Several orders were incorrect and the ones that were correct were often delivered by surly table runners. I can't really blame the staff though, the volume was just too much to allow for an enjoyable dining experience.

On Saturday, two televisions were showing the Patriots-Jaguars game in the adjacent bar area. The game created stirs from some customers and made the place feel more like a sports bar than a dining room. Believe me, I love a good sports bar and had I wanted to watch the game, I would have gone to one.

All of that said, we did have a nice bottle of wine chosen from their brief but interesting wine list. I might try this place again, maybe on a weeknight?

Unique Spot

I had a very enjoyable time at BARcelona. I don't recall it being overly loud, but I can imagine that such a small place could have that problem. I really enjoyed the tapas style menu and everything I had was outstanding. I can't think of another authentic Spanish restaurant in Indy so this is a must see locale. I would recommend going with a group of fun-loving friends rather than on a date. The atmosphere is sophisticated yet casual. One last thing that made it great for me, they had soccer on TV.

WE loved it!

My wife and I hadn't been on a date in a while and we were doing shop Xmas shopping on Mass. Ave. and decided to eat here. We knew the concept and were excited b/c we wanted to be forced to slow down and enjoy an evening without the kids. This was the perfect spot to do it and by the end I was in pain. We wanted and attempted to eat just about everything from before dinner cocktails (pricey) to dessert (xtra awesome). The concept is good, the semi-authentic ethnicity is a bonus to the flair in this city and it is in an under-used area of downtown which helps gentrify the area and for now makes parking no problem.

You should check this place out and if it sounds good on the menu it is better when it shows up at your table.

Mostly a great time

Went with a party of 7 on Saturday night.
What is good? The food was good. Some was very good and some was okay. This is expected with 7 people each ordering at least 1 dish of their choosing (and no duplicates). The atmosphere and location are great. More than anything, it ends up being more fun than most meals. Figure a few hours of light eating and great conversation (well, that will require you to go with people you like).
We had a good service, unlike some of the other reviews.

What was bad? It was a little hot in there. Yeah, it was a fairly hot and humid day out but it was hot and very humid in there. It started off okay and got worse around 9pm. That made it a bit less pleasant than it should of been, but not a deal breaker. If you had anything cold to drink, the outside of the cup was a wet mess and thus the table and clothing all became dripped on wet. While I will not say it was overly pricey, everyone of us sort of felt that it ended up being a bit much for what we got. We ended up with 15 plates (2 each plus 1). We had drinks. It ended up about $50 a person with tip. Clearly that is not outrageous for about 2 hours of fun. I will tell potential viewers that 2 plates each is a starting point. In reality in this day and age this is about the amount of food we should be eating . . .but many would take 3-4 plates each to match the normal portion size and bloated feeling of most current places. Just know this going in. There would be plenty that would be bent at $50 and not being silly full. To each their own.

We will go back for sure.
