Yats (659 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN)24
I have never been to New Orleans, but if their food is better than Yat’s, I might never leave once i visit.
I love sopping up the extras with my garlicy buttered bread.
The prices are perfect – $5 for a mound of food, and it’s got enough spice without killing me.
the guys behind the bar are laid back and friendly and it’s a quick serve and you’re ready to eat!
I LOVE YATS!!!

Weber Grill Restaurant (10 N. Illinois St., Indianapolis, IN)9
Try the berry cobbler if you still have room for dessert! Three berries (black, red and blue) hot and syrupy with a flaky sugar crust on top and a dollop of vanilla bean icecream – totally worth it.
I ordered the beef brisket – and ended up ignoring the bun it came on and ate the beef with a fork. It really is delicious and worth going – come on! Try something new!

South Bend Chocolate Co. (28 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN)1
I send all my visitors here for a cup of coffee. BEST hot chocolate and a great place for lunch. They have a terrific grilled hot ham and cheese and tomato soup I love to get – and around $6!!
It’s not just chocolate!

Oceanaire Seafood Room (30 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN)6
I was able to go to a concierge luncheon right when they opened- it was lovely and relaxed.
The wait staff really knew their stuff and it felt that they had been working there for a long time. We were able to meet the manager and schmooze and had a darn good time doing it, too.
I don’t remember what I ate – I do know I am picky about seafood, and this place is top notch for seafood lovers – it will not dissapoint!
And as seafood goes, the price is right.
Specialties of the house include Pan-seared Florida Red Grouper, Grilled Pacific Swordfish, Grilled Maine Diver Scallops, Pan-Seared Alaskan Halibut, Black and Bleu Hawaiian Blue Marlin and more! -
Mass Ave Pub (745 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN)
We sneak over to 745 after ComedySportz shows and have a pint or two with the actors and great conversation and a really nice barkeep.
A good place to hang! -
MacNiven's Restaurant and Bar (339 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN)13
I just love McNivens. Great place to fill in a nook on Mass Ave and it is just terrific. Their food is amazing, huge portions, their beer selection really is tops (I have spent time in Ireland and was surprised). We love to meet up with friends here and the staff never seem to mind when ‘two more just showed up!’ and push another table together or cram ourselves happily in.

Le Peep Restaurant (301 N. Illinois St., Indianapolis, IN)6
This is the place I send guests when they are fixin’ for some good breakfast.
Their french toast is amazing, and really good prices. Visitors have actually come back to my desk and told me a big ‘thank you’ for the tip – they had a great breakfast there and it was just what they wanted.Oh, and my cousin once saw Elvis Costello having breakfast there, too!
Try the OJ when you go – it is one of the few places I drink OJ, either at Le Peeps or in an orange grove in Florida. :)
Downtown location IS the best, I think.

Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches (1 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN)2
Jimmy Johns is a good place to grab a quick sammich and head out. I really love their tuna sub with sprouts, tomatoes, mayo and onions. Delish!

Bazbeaux Pizza (334 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN)26
When I lived downtown THIS is the place my mom would drag me (NOT kicking and screaming, mind you) with my sisters when she wanted to get a quick bite to eat. LOVE their pizza. Best stuff in town, really.

English Ivy's (944 N. Alabama St., Indianapolis, IN)
I ended up chatting it up with my new boyfriend, now husband, until almost 2am at Ivy’s in 2003. I LOVE this bar – it is so fun, every time I walk in the door every single person is friendly and funny and just there to enjoy their time and have good conversation.
Great staff, so helpful, great grownups, just a great bar with good food and good people. -
Einstein Bros. (47 S. Illinois St., Indianapolis, IN)3
I love Einsteins. I always get the same thing, a veg out on an everything bagel with extra schmear of feta pine nut spread. If I get a soup, I LOVE their broccoli and cheddar and the chicken and wild rice.
Good place to grab lunch just down the street and if I want to treat myself. -
Dunaway's Palazzo Ossigeno (351 S. East St., Indianapolis, IN)
I loved the view of the skyline.
While the menu IS pricey, you can get a good appetizer (we had the grilled brushetta for $8) and a salad (I had the wedge for $6 and my husband had the lobster and avocado for $15) and a good red wine, we had a fun time. It felt romantic and relaxed. I think we stayed for almost 2 hours, chatting and drinking in the view last summer. -
Champps Americana (49 W. Maryland St., Indianapolis, IN)3
The food is very good. They have a Pan Pacific Chicken Salad that is wonderful! With wonton strips, cucumbers, red peppers, bamboo shoots, water chesnuts and mandarin oranges – it is very flavorful and a huge portion. It can easily make 2 lunches and cost only $9.00. Not bad for downtown.
Also try the cajun chicken sandwich and the patty melt. My friends were very happy with their selections.
Not a sports person, and there are a multitude of televisions, but i was still able to have a good conversation and noticed that the noise was not a distraction.

Aesop's Tables (600 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN)8
As a girl who isn’t a fan of olives, I got a surprise in my bun when I realized they had scooped out the breading and stuffed it with black and green olives!!! I took a majority of them out (pure salt to me) but kept some in. The food was excellent, and I was happy with everything. I love Greek food, but not olives….I will always return to Aesops!

Acapulco Joe's Mexican Foods (365 N. Illinois St., Indianapolis, IN)33
Your basic mexican fare. It is tasty and cheap – and I really do like it. I can order almost anything off the menu and I am pleased with it – the service is face-paced and loud during lunch – a lot of people and harried wait staff, but our food was hot and the order was correct and we enjoyed reading the story of the place on the menu while we waited.

Abbey Coffee House (825 N. Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis, IN)16
I do miss the old Abbey on Mass Ave. So much easier for me to get to, I don’t know why. It was my favorite haunt when I first moved here from Chicago and I love their vegetarian flair. I am a meat eating German chick, but I love the creativity and tastiness one can attain with the right ingredients. The Abbey does that.
The Old Abbey – I loved the painted ceiling and the drabness of the place, actually. Shelves of tattered books and mix and match furniture made it eclectic and fun. You could go by yourself and never feel lonely.
And their carrot cake is to die for! Or at least die a LITTLE for. -
Aristocrat Pub & Restaurant (5212 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, IN)
I have only gone to Aristocrat during their Sunday brunch, which seemed to consist of excellent mimosas and always like to sit out on the front patio in the summertime. I have enjoyed my time there and have always had good service. I would go back again, as soon as I can find a free Sunday!!

Cafe Nordstrom (130 S. Meridian St. (Third Floor), Indianapolis, IN)1
I work within the skywalk area and this is one of the best places to grab a coffee and snack. Their coffee is varied, well-priced, and better than Starbucks. And their cookies are huge. Cute cafe area, though I only gave 4 stars out of 5 because it’s cafe tables/chairs are litered out in the mall walking area. I could only wish it was a little more private, but the coffee is worth it.

Dyno Jax (3742 E. 82nd St., Indianapolis, IN)9
Thanks for the info~ lived in Chicago for a while and LOVE Portillos! Chocolate cake and Italian Beef! Even drove up there to see the Art Museum on my b-day and Portillos was the only place I wanted to have lunch. Yay!
