Lockerbie Pub (631 E. Michigan St., Indianapolis, IN)
    3

I had been in a few times and always enjoyed myself but Wednesday night I actually got to spend some time in the Lockerbie. The dude behind the bar had a super deep voice and gnarly presence. The girl behind the bar was mega cute and extremely attentive. Cheap drinks, great music, I love hearing Radio Head when I’m drunk.

How freaking awesome is Oceanworld? Its been around forever but everyone keeps forgetting about it!

Ginza Japanese Steak House (5380 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN)

Had lunch here with Liv awhile back. The chef was awesome! Very entertaining tiny, little Asian man. Who happend to know many of the same people in the Sushi industry that I knew. Offering generous portions with friendly service I left happy. Its in a suspect area of town but I will most certainly be going back again!

Marco's Restaurant and Lounge (2380 E. 54th St., Indianapolis, IN)

Every sociable North Sider should know about Cheap Meat nights already. Don’t over look the rest of the fare on their menu. The specials here are always sure to delight. Locally owned and operated I agree with Doug, this is one of Indy’s best kept secrets. The staff is always tentative and friendly. I do reccomend making reservations if you plan to dine on Tuesday.

Stir Crazy (6020 E. 82nd St., Indianapolis, IN)
    9

So I was nervous about going into this place. It looked like PF Chang’s vs. Mongolian BBQ. Surprisingly its pretty damn good! A very well traveled friend of mine who happens to be the fussiest eater I have ever met made a complaint about our calamari at work and insisted that we try the calamari at Stir Crazy. He was correct, its pretty damn good. Do I believe its better than mine….nah. It most certainly does not hold up to that culinary, tentacled gem that Capitol Grille serves up either but its still V.G.S.. The Ahi Tuna is presented beautifully and generously. The service here was quirky and my waitress seemed to not understand the concept of bottled water but who cares, the food is good stuff! The Banana Wontons, oh man! Gnarly! I am a banana fiend. Moderately priced as well. I will certainly be dining here on my next excursion back up to Castleton!

Chatham Tap Pub & Restaurant (719 Massachusetts Ave., Indianapolis, IN)
    17

As a recent transplant to downtown I needed to find a new hangout. I believe this may be it. Despite the fact you can not smoke inside. I only smoke when I drink if you cared to know. The food is interesting, filling and tasty. The Beer selection….how do I word this. Its your standard “Good English Pub Beer” selection. The service is typical of a pub but they are quick to remember your name, face and typical drink of choice. The tables are sitting on top of each other but I do enjoy the proper football games being on the televisions. Anyone living downtown should definately give this place a go.

Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza (5646 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN)
    25

Their pizza is the $h$#! Locally owned and operated in the heart of my childhood neighborhood. Their pizza blows the face off Bazbeaux or anyone else in this town. Unfortunately they don’t deliver to my house but I am lucky enough that they deliver to my work! I wish them nothing but the utmost success and success to everyone involved in the revitalization of Irvington. It’s a beautiful community that keeps getting over looked by the local government.

Try the Fromage, Extra mega, super tons of cheese pizza or whatever its called! So dank!

Jockamo, you kick some mega pizza ass!

Dawson's on Main (1464 Main St., Speedway, IN)
    20

I as well have had reservation issues here but I have never had a bad experience. The service is average but fun. Last time I dined here I was with a group of 8, we sat in the bar, drank heavily and had a blast. The waiter walked up to the table in jeans and a colts jersey and proceeded to do shots with us. I love independently owned restaurants!!!!!! The food was prepared well and the presentation was nice. It’s a steakhouse in Speedway, not a 5 star dining giant in down town Indy. Give them some slack.

    Shapiro's (808 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN)
    8

Shapiros in an old school Indy tradition. I rememeber my mother taking me there for lunch when I was a child. It’s a glorified MCL and I like it that way. I never finish my meal and I usually need a dolly to wheel my fat butt out of there when I am done. I will say the Lox is average but their desserts are super and their deviled eggs were killer!

Taste Cafe and Marketplace (5164 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, IN)
    12

I love this place! Everytime I go in I am pleased. I am a big fan of their pomme frittes and South West Breakfast Burrito. I actually plan on stopping in today and snagging a cache of cheese to munch on this weekend. Their baked goods always kick ass as well! I heard they were taking over the area next door and opening for dinner but I have yet to see that happen. If anyone knows anymore about this please let me know.

Did I mention they have some gnarly cheese?

Patachou on the Park (225 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN)
    3

I am a raging fan of Petite Chou in Broad Ripple but with recent changes in my work schedule I have found myself in here semi regularly. Though I find it more comfortable for myself to wear jeans and a tshirt into Petite Chou, I have always been warmly received here as well. Something about dining in a room full of suites still does not sit well with me. The service is always super solid and the food kicks just as much ass as their smaller counter part up north.

The biggest bonus of Patachou on The Park is their smoking hot General Manager!

Petite Chou (823 Westfield Blvd., Indianapolis, IN)
    3

My friends and I love Petite Chou!!!! One could say I have a Petite Chou habit that is comparable to that of most drug addicts. At one time we were dining there 3-5 breakfast/lunches a week.
My usual breakfast club includes: A Kiwi, A Englishman and a guest or two. They travel in and out of the states quiet often and everytime upon their return to “Freedomland” there is a mandatory breakfast at Patachou. Its actually became an unspoken rule.

I have never once been disappointed with a single thing here. The service is always friendly, prompt, accurate and consistent. They know me by name and what my typical beverage of choice is which might not be difficult but it means a lot to me. Points like that add a level of professionalism and comfort to my dining experiences.

The food…The Croque’s are amazing and filling! The broken yolk sandwich is always a delight. I am a tuna salad snob and theirs is always above par. Get it on a croissant. I can not praise this place enough.

I was never a fan of coffee until one morning I was waiting for a table and I figured “What the hell, I’ll give it another try”. I had to stop myself after 1 cup as to not develop another vice.

It will be a sad day in Broad Ripple if this place ever closes.

Brugge Brasserie (1011 E. Westfield Blvd., Indianapolis, IN)
    21

I love this place. The late hours, the beer, the Crepes, the Duck Confit, the Pomme Frittes with an arsenal of dipping sauces, the bucket of Mussels!

It is hard to beat consuming a bucket of mussels, a cone of Pomme Frittes, a pint of goodness and watching all the beautiful ladies jog by on a summer evening.

This place is hands down one of the most over looked eateries in Indy!

Broad Ripple Brewpub (842 E. 65th St., Indianapolis, IN)
    20

After living in Broad Ripple for the past 6 years and a long time patron of all the locally owned establishments here. I have always enjoyed a pint of lawnmower in the summer accompanied by the Bison Burger. The 12 Alarm Tuna is always tasty and fresh as well…

The service is hit or miss. It seems to miss whenever the place is not so busy, which confuses me. The ploughmans platter is typically filling and prepared with fresh ingredients. Though the last time I went in the cheese cubes were turning color and getting hard, the pita bread was hard and chewy and the peppers were not fresh.

Old Pro's Table (827 Broad Ripple Ave., Indianapolis, IN)
    9

I have been a long time fan of this place. I have known the staff members here for for years. Some of them for eons. Its comfortable, cheap, fun and everything one could want from a neighborhood bar! The $5 pizza covered in hot sauce is killer! The owners and bar staff are always quick with a greeting and my bud lite is on the bar before I can shuffle my ass into a stool.

The launch pad for Sunday Funday Debauchery. I have had many hazy Monday mornings!

    Thank you OPTs!

Biscuits Cafe (1035 Broad Ripple Ave., Indianapolis, IN)
    8

I live a half block away from this place and as strange as it is I cant keep away. If one crossed Charlie Browns (Classic Speedway Diner) with Cancun you would get Biscuits.

When it comes to service, you get what you pay for which is just fine with me.

The crushed ice in my coke is a huge bonus for this spot! I personally am a fan of the eggs benedict. The color of the hollandaise can be a bit unappetizing but upon tasting I was pleasantly surprised. Order a side of toast to sop up the unnaturally colored goodness.

There is a reason this place is always busy…It reminds me of the days when we would take over the smoking section at Perkins after a long night of heavy drinking.

Capital Grille (50 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN)
    8

Myself and 2 friends walked into Capital Grille to see a plethora of familiar faces from the Down Town dining community. The Manager in training, a high school classmate of mine greeted me upon entry and quickly seated us. The setting was gorgeous. I had received a coupon for a free calamari and upon receiving the dish, I felt guilty for not paying. By far one of the most interesting preparations I have ever seen in this town. With a mild bit of heat this is hands down one of the best appetizers I have had in quiet some time. I decided to try their burger which I had heard so much about. The Burger….Well…The Burger is #$%*&%# amazing. Cheers!

6 Lounge and Restaurant (247 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN)
    4

My friends and I have been long time patrons of 6. Owner Ravi Chopra has always treated us as if we were family. No matter what local or out of town celebrity was in there that evening I was never made to feel second best. The bar staff is always attentive and friendly and quick to provide my usual drink and escort us to our seat. Chef Tyler, a recent face on the Indy farmers market scene, also dishes out some awesome cuisine from the kitchen at 6 in addition to the killer mushrooms he peddles at the Broad Ripple Farmers Market.
