St. Elmo Steak House (127 S. Illinois St., Indianapolis, IN)12
I chose to take advantage of Indy’s restaurant week and went to St. Elmo’s last night on a double date with my guy and two friends. I’ve never eaten at St. Elmo’s before and heard only great things about it. I must agree with any positive thing anyone has every uttered about this place. We all got the world famous shrimp cocktail (which is fiery hot…but absolutely fabulous), “petite” filet mignon (which was really about an 8oz…way larger than I expected), and cheesecake for dessert. Typically this would run a couple approximately $150 w/ drinks…we got it for $60 per couple (not including our wine and beer)!! Our service was great and the steaks were all cooked to perfection. Everyone should treat themselves to a great dinner at this restaurant at some point.
Enjoy!!!

shelBi street caFe & Bistro (1105 Shelby St., Indianapolis, IN)5
A friend and I finally headed to the Shelbi St. Cafe last night. I was a little nervous because a) I’m a poor graduate student and b) the menu looked pricy online. Anyhow we walk into a nice inviting, chic atmosphere with friendly wait-staff. We decided to go light and split an appetizer (Crab Cakes on a bed of mixed greens with a sweet chili sauce) and a side salad. We both chose the signature Gingham Salad which was mixed field greens tossed in a poppy seed vinaigrette with seasonal berries, mandarin oranges, toasted pecans and blue cheese crumbles…it was delicious! The crab cakes were light and fluffy with some spice. Altogether it was a filling meal. We finished it off with their coffee of the day, a dark and white chocolate mocha with whipped cream. All in all it was well worth the drive and not too expensive (as I prevoiusly thought) and trust me, I will be there again next week!

Cheesecake Factory (1251 U.S. 31 North, Greenwood, IN)4
I went here for the first time…EVER last Sunday with the family. I didn’t know they had so much to choose from…almost too much. Anyhow, we all decided to have brunch. I chose an omlet (that doesn’t look like it’s spelled right…sorry if it’s not!), and my beau chose the Monte Cristo sandwich. First off, our service was excellent; the water and coffee continuously topped off, and food delivered in a timely manner. I must say the portions are massive. Definitely too much for one person…maybe even two. My omlet was delicious (though it looked very fake upon arrival…you’ll see should you order it). The monte cristo sandwich was also great, but again a huge portion. It wasn’t bad reheated the next day either.

Pizza King (7045 Bluff Road, Indianapolis, IN)1
The pizza is good. Don’t get me wrong…but since most of the staff consists of high schoolers…service isn’t always the best.
“But hey, at least you can play some video games while you wait.”

Ichiban Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar (8265 U.S. 31 South, Indianapolis, IN)5
Man…Alli beat me to it.
However Ichiban does have some AMAZING sushi.
I said I wouldn’t tell anyone else about the half priced sushi on Mondays….but since it’s already up, what the hey!
There’s about 10 rolls to choose from on the ‘half-price’ menu. But I wouldn’t stop there, use that $ you’re saving and buy a specialty roll, because Ichiban has some of the best in town! My personal favs are: Pink Dragon, Kate Roll, Rock-n-roll and the sunset roll. The specialty rolls are around $9, but are filling!
So go give it a try!
P.S. wine and beer only. No coffee, just tea for warm drinks.
