An Indianapolis woman died early today in a one-car accident that followed a confrontation with another driver, police said.Investigators identified the victim as Kathy J. Slater, 38, of Indianapolis. She was killed when the Chevrolet Caprice she was driving slammed into a tree on Keystone Avenue near 35th Street about 2 a.m.Police said Slater and two companions had left a White Castle restaurant near 38th Street and Keystone earlier. As she pulled from eastbound 38th onto southbound Keystone, she turned into the path of another southbound car described as a white Nissan.According to an IMPD news release, “the driver of the white Nissan pulled up alongside the Chevy Caprice and apparently words were exchanged between both drivers. … According to witnesses the white Nissan proceeded to pull into the lane of the Chevy Caprice, causing her to suddenly swerve to the left to avoid a collision with the Nissan. The Chevy continued across the northbound lane of Keystone Avenue, leaving the roadway, striking a tree head-on.‘’Two passengers in Slater’s car also were injured. Angela Lamb, 44, was reported in critical condition and Clifton Benson, 19, in serious condition at Methodist Hospital.”Police are asking the community for assistance in possibly identifying the driver and vehicle of the white Nissan that fled the scene of the accident,’’ the news release said. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
