A 20-year-old woman who appeared in court Wednesday to face handgun charges walked out facing an unrelated murder charge.

April McKenney, Indianapolis, was arrested at 1 p.m. in Marion Superior Court and preliminarily charged with murder, said Sgt. Paul Thompson, a spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. She was held without bond in the Marion County Jail.

McKenney is accused of killing Gregory Ray, 33, Indianapolis, on Saturday morning. Ray was found inside a home in the 2000 block of Roosevelt Avenue at 8:55 a.m.

IMPD homicide detective William Rogers said McKenney had an appearance in court on unrelated handgun charges. He said information from residents led him to McKenney.

Police have not disclosed the motive for Ray’s shooting.
