INDY'S ONLY COMMUNITY RADIO STATION EMERGES INTO PUBLIC EYE WITH FUNDRAISER

February 29th event at Radio Radio will engage the community to celebrate, support and participate in 91.9 WITT Community Radio for Central Indiana.

February 29th, leap year, will not be like any other day. It's the official kick-off of an outreach and fundraising campaign to build on a 15-year journey to get 91.9 WITT Community Radio to Central Indiana.

Fifteen years ago WITT's founders began a slow and steady process to obtain a license from the FCC for a community radio station in Central Indiana. Since the issuance by the FCC of a Construction Permit for 91.9 FM on May 31, 2007, the movement has expanded. WITT was generously donated a transmitter by Radio One and began a fundraising campaign to acquire the final state-of-the-art equipment that WITT will use on air.

WITT's mission is to provide unparalleled levels of access to the studio, which sets it apart from any other radio station in Central Indiana. The full-powered community radio station, slated to air in the summer of 2008 at their headquarters in Zionsville, will give individuals from all age groups and cultural backgrounds an opportunity to develop their creative talents on radio. The station will offer an adventurous mix of music, local issues coverage, live performing arts broadcasts, national and international broadcasts, radio theatre, storytelling, children and teen's programming, and more.

On Friday, February 29th, at Radio Radio in Fountain Square, local musicians, artists, businesses and community members will celebrate and demonstrate their financial support for 91.9 WITT Community Radio. The evening will feature performances by Mudkids (hip-hop), Kate Lamont & Blueprintmusic (Americana), The Philosophy (hip-hop), Blackberry Jam featuring Jumbo Shrimp (funk/soul) and Sarah Grain (folk/jazz). Doors open at 8:00 pm, and the cost is $7. All proceeds will go directly to 91.9 WITT. Tickets are available at Indy CD and Vinyl, Luna Music, Missing Link Records, Vibes and online at www.brownpapertickets.com. MC will be provided by IndyMojo.com

Event attendees will also be able to bid on donated silent auction and raffle items that will benefit WITT. Items will include concert tickets from Live Nation, a wellness and massage package from Healing Arts Indy, diverse local music and merchandise from Audio Reconnaissance and local artists, a Made in Indiana food basket from Two Cookin' Sisters, portrait sessions with Crowe's Eye Photography, a 1" caliper shade tree from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc., a coffee package from Earth House Coffee Shop, a studio session with Snapjoint Studios, gift certificates to Missing Link Records, and more!

Event organizers are also interested in capturing information from attendees on ways in which they envision themselves being involved in WITT. "WITT will be staffed primarily by volunteers who will have the opportunity to share their interests and areas of expertise," says Jim Walsh, WITT Board member. "And until we get on the air, we need lots of volunteers to help launch the station."
