Avon — Construction started this week to widen and improve traffic flow through one of Avon’s busiest intersections, at U.S. 36 and Dan Jones Road.

The project, estimated to cost more than $1.05 million, is focused on improvements to the north and south approaches of Dan Jones to east-west U.S. 36.

Ryan Cannon, Avon Public Works director, said the work will add an extra through lane for north-south Dan Jones traffic. It also will add medians to keep traffic moving and prevent bottlenecks and unsafe turns into driveways and parking lots.

If the weather stays dry, Cannon said, the project could be done this year.
