Why is Corn Hole such a popular Hoosier pastime?

I've played it several times and found it enjoyable. I've lost and won some games. I even managed to toss a bean bag while holding a drink and a cigarette. What amazes me is that I never really heard of this game until the last couple of years. Now on every street corner and bar parking lot, you can't sling a dead cat without hitting up some cornholing. What is the appeal of this non-sport? Why not lawn darts? or horse shoes?

That's where I started playing it. My ex is from Cincy and all our friends there were fanatic about it. I think I played for the first time at a Labor Day cookout in 2003 (don't ask why I remember this crap).

So, Cincinnati is to blame for this scourge?

Cornhole is popular for tailgating... can't exactly play those other games on pavement..

From what I've heard the game was started in Cincinnati.

Yes. You have to give my hometown credit for something other than racism and pork breeding procedures.

Cincinnati also invented racism and hog raising?!? I'm learning all the time.

What is the appeal?

Simple ... it is extremely easy to play, but somewhat challenging to excel in. So people of all ages and experience can play and have a shot at winning. That's what makes it so fun!

OK, I wouldn't say it invented hog raising. But there were/are lots of pigs there. Let's just say, it fleshed out pig raising and took racism to whole new levels.

Poor, poor Cincinnati.

And aren't lawn darts really dangerous? You're not going to do much damage with a beanbag.

Are you sure one doesn't toss an ear of corn in the hole?
