Who was your best teacher?
The work of a teacher in Brown County at Sprunica has me thinking about the best teacher I ever had. Michael Bowman has inspired students to build Brown County Historical Models. She was a real hard-nosed teacher at John Marshall High School - 30 years ago so I don't remember her name.
Sr. Rita Vukovic - without question - I attended a small Catholic High School on the West Side of Indy and this nun will stick out as a favorite teacher and inspiration for as long as I draw breath.
I had the same art teacher for three different art classes and she was wonderful. Her name was Mrs. Pietrocarlo, but we called her Mrs. P. She was always dressed to the nines but very laid back. When she wasn't talking we got to listen to the radio while we worked on our art. We could also talk and she would join in. I don't think we ever got scolded by her, probably because we respected her enough to behave. The best compliment I ever received from a woman came from her when she was talking about how to draw the face. She picked three people from the classroom and I was one of the three. As she went through the three of us she kept saying how I had the most perfect face to draw. That my eyes were even, nose was perfect, lips were lush, etc. I was probably blushing when she was done, and no she wasn't a lesbian! And I was always the #1 student in her class and received all the art awards at all the top student ceremonies they had every semester for the school. I guess I was her favorite, teachers pet? We got along very well.
