Who cares what celebrities weigh?
I have recently heard a lot about the big deal people are making about Cheryl Burke ("Dancing with the Stars") gaining weight. Aside from the fact that it is nobody's business, she is only a size 4! She gained 5 pounds and became a size 4!! So why are people calling her fat? People used to praise Marilyn Monroe's body, but she went between sizes 10 and 12 most of the time. What has happened to society when we see someone with a hot body and appropriate curves and call that overweight?
What I find funny is that at the same time that people are criticizing Burke's weight gain, they are also making a big deal about some of the cast of the new "90210" being too skinny. What I want to know is who decides what size and weight is the "perfect" image we are all supposed to fall into? And what is the perfect size and weight?
All of this coming from a nation known for being obese!

In Marilyn's defense, her measurements were 36.24.36 which is more like a size 2 these days. Sizes have changed as our measurements have gone through the roof. Now a pretty standard off the rack size ten has a 30 inch waist and a 40 inch hips. I do agree people make too much out of weight/sizing etc, but it bothers me when people use ms. devastatingly beautiful as an example of being overweight during the time and it being fine, she really wasn't she was in fact quite tiny!
According to snopes:
Height: 5'5.5" Weight:118-140 Bust:35-37" Waist: 22-23" Hips: 35-36" Bra size 36 D

Maybe it's related to the fact that most people lead empty lives and rather than address their own problems they obsess over whether a washed up pop star has cellulite after giving birth. The people who run the celebrity TV shows and magazines are shameless profiteers and/or people who wanted to be cool in high school and never got over it and the people who define style/beauty in this country generally aren't attracted to women, so you do the math.

What about the fact that they made a big ole deal about Eva Longoria's double zero size, I mean what is that? A size for someone in utero? She's got to be way freaking tiny to be that little and you have to wonder about her height...I used to do a lot of theatre and I knew about "stage" adding 10 pounds (as does a TV camera). The only person i saw defy that logic was Oprah...she is a BIG woman and I don't mean fat, I mean as in no matter how much weight she loses, her bone structure will always make her look big. She has a huge cranium! I was so surprised by that. People are who they are and why does anyone care? As for those girls on 90210...what are they like 12?

Marilyn Monroe was apparently super tiny. Just so's everyone knows. Like, so tiny they had to buy special mannequins to fit her clothes when they went on exhibit.
I think people worry about it so much because they never have a healthy core body image instilled in them, so they are constantly looking for someone to relate to. Maybe I am just speaking for myself.
Also, Neal and I will be doing some myth busting regarding support garments in the near future. Watch for it!
Marilyn Monroe may have been tiny, but she had the upper-body strength to support at least a couple Kennedys and at least one Dimaggio.
