Where to get cheap drinks all week

Of course it's ridiculous to think you would go out to drink every night. You're in your 20s or 30s. You have a real job and you wear big-kid clothes to work. It's not like you can close the bar each night, roll out of bed and head to your 12:40 p.m. class anymore. Or could you?

Not that we'd ever encourage the idea, but wouldn't it be nice to know where to get some cheap drinks every night of the week?

Sunday

Let's start the week off right, shall we? On a day when you can't buy alcohol in stores, go to a place like Murphy's Steakhouse, 4189 N. Keystone Ave.

The neighborhood steakhouse recently added a new martini menu, and these babies are only $6 and $7 a pop. Sure, some are sweet and fruity, such as the "Champagne Lady" with cranberry juice and champagne, but you can find strong classic martinis on this list of 16 drinks.

Monday

Last night wasn't too bad, was it? Here's where Drinking Scouts can start to earn your merit badges. Let's go to Bourbon Street Distillery, 361 Indiana Ave., for $1 drafts. Keep in mind that you'll still have to tip the servers because they have a tough job on Mondays. The $1.beer varieties are limited to Coors Light or Miller Light.

Tuesday

All right. We're far enough away from righteous Sunday to head to the Classy Chassy, right? At this gentlemen's club, 4444 S. Harding St., you'll find buckets of four beers for $4. Choose any domestic beer while watching the on-stage entertainment.

Wednesday

OK, so you're not exactly making the big bucks, and this daily drinking is starting to wear on your wallet. Try Knockouts, 5220 E. Southport Road, where you can get a 10-ounce cup of Coors Light for a penny after 9.p.m. Yes, 1.cent.

If you'd like something more grown-up, head to Deano's Vino at 1112 Shelby St. for a $5 wine tasting with Deano himself. Taste three to five different wines from 6 to 7.p.m., all while learning about them.

Thursday

As we did with the beginning of the week, we should ease into the weekend with martinis. Scholar's Inn, 725 Massachusetts Ave., has half-price martinis. While this event is limited to Thursday nights throughout the year, the restaurant is offering the deal each night through mid-September. Be careful, though: Last call is usually before midnight.

Friday

After a long week, sometimes you want cocktails that are fancy-shmancy. Other times, you'll want wine. And sometimes, you'll want to chase your cheap drink with a drag queen. So go to Talbott Street, at 2145 Talbott St., for free cover and $2.50 well drinks and domestic bottles -- and royal entertainment.

Saturday

Can't end the week without a bang. The Vogue, 6259 N. College Ave., has $2.50 Bud and Bud Lights and $2.50 Captain Morgan drinks all night. Bonus: Women can forgo the $5 cover charge if they slide in before 11:30 p.m.

Once, in my more youthful and motivated days, I thought about putting a guide together similar to this post. My thought was a guide to Indianapolis giving the various drink, food, admission, etc. specials for each day of the week. There are so many great deals to be had and fun things to try.

Ummm, the 1 cent beers after 9 pm at Knockouts violate IC-7.1-5-10-20, specifically:

"IC 7.1-5-10-20 Unlawful acts by retailers Sec. 20. (a) It is unlawful for a holder of a retailer's permit to do any of the following: (1) Sell alcoholic beverages during a portion of the day at a price that is reduced from the usual, customary, or established price that the permittee charges during the remainder of that day."

This the section of the Indiana Code that outlaws happy hours.

You might want to clue them in before the excise cops pay them a visit.

If that policy really is the case, then "Have A Nice Day", "Tiki Bob's", "Howl At The Moon", and many...many more bars and clubs are skirting it for their weekend specials up to a certain time of the night.
