Where do I take my old paint?

When I bought my house, I inherited a lot of old paint. A LOT OF OLD PAINT.

Paint stores won’t take, I can’t put it in the garbage, and I know I’m not going to use it. Where does it go? Who will relieve me of this burden?

Anybody have any ideas?

If it is paint that can be donated and used you cantale it to Rehab Resources on the near east side of Indy. if iris paint that needs disposing of, then you can take it to a Bee Environmental in Plainfield.

There are a few other places but they are county specific. One in Hendricks County and one in Hamilton County. The names are escaping me, but I don’t live there so it’s hard for me to remember. I can find out for you if you do live in one of those counties if you like.

Rehab Resources, Inc. – (317) 637-3701, Indianapolis, IN 46201

Here are three places in Marion County you can try. For more info on these and other recycling centers in the area, check out our list of locations and what they accept at http://green.indy.com/posts/wher...>

Belmont Avenue Collection Facility, 2700 S. Belmont Ave.
IMPD Training Facility, 9049 E. 10th St.
Perry Township Government Center, 4925 S. Shelby St.

El Borbah needs to know what kind of paint (oil or latex). If latex, you can sun dry it and toss in the trash. If it’s oil, I’d check with a whale and ask if it needs it whale oil blubber back.

Oil paint comes from whale blubber? Is that true?

If you are in Marion County you can take it to a ToxDrop location (they accept all household hazardous waste). This is free for county residents… well sort of… Ultimately your paying for through tax money, whether you use it or not.

If you are not in Marion County, try your counties Waste Mgt. Department. They will either take it or will have a local list of who will. They don’t want it in the waste stream any more than you do.
