When the spirit moves you
For connoisseurs of fine spirits, winter equals whisky season. Perfect for sipping and savoring by the fireside, this Scotch whisky trio includes two varieties available only in the United States. They may not come with bargain price tags, but these bottles are worth the splurge for a special occasion or a memorable gift. Look for them at Crown Liquors, Payless Liquor and 21st Amendment. All prices are suggested retail.
This just-released malt whisky aged for 12 years in European sherry oak and American bourbon oak casks, resulting in a rich, smooth taste. Crafted in the Glendullan distillery, which dates back to 1897, The Singleton presents an aroma of roasted nuts, toffee and spices, leading to sweet flavors of more toffee and spices, along with orange marmalade and toasty grains. You may notice a hint of black currant in the creamy finish.
$35.99/750 ml.
Made by one of Scotland's oldest licensed distilleries, this whisky is limited to a production of 7,716 bottles. The single-malt style begins with scents of banana, toasted muffins and sweet fruits, with a hint of smoke. Fruits dominate the taste, which is balanced by a slight saltiness and ends with notes of cocoa and smoke. A smooth texture gives way to a long, dry finish.
$149.99/750 ml.
If your budget allows for a major indulgence, this multifaceted whisky delivers. Less than 3,000 individually numbered bottles have been distributed worldwide, containing a whisky aged three decades in American and European oak refill casks. The oldest and rarest whisky in Talisker's collection, it has a nose of spiced apples and smoke. Apples also mark the taste, along with pears and hints of salt and pepper. The finish features honey and a woody note.
