Westfield moves ahead on sports complex
Westfield could have a rendering of its proposed sports complex by the end of September.
Westfield’s Sports Complex Commission is moving ahead with plans for the complex and hopes to have a list of potential sports facilities for the complex by Sept. 8, said William Knox, director of the Hamilton County Sports Authority and a member of the commission. The drawing will be made after the list is complete.
Those details will provide a starting point for the committee, which will then consider a location and associated costs. Preliminary plans could change later, said Kevin Teder, the commission’s leader.
The intial plan, announced in April, called for an outdoor multipurpose stadium, an indoor facility and up to 28 fields. An area on Towne Road between 146th and 161st streets was to be its home.
Now, the Sports Complex Commission is evaluating what kind of sports facilities to have, where the complex should be and who should run it.
Teder said the commission is looking at several locations, though the original location is still in the mix. He couldn’t say how many locations are being considered, but he said the group would like to narrow it down to two.
If the project stays at the Towne Road location, it could be part of a $1.5 billion multiuse development called Symphony. Westfield-based Estridge is developing the area for residential, commercial and office space.
