As a geek, it doesn’t take much for me to get excited. Throw in some nice graphics, sound effects, online social networking and I’m happy.

The first Web site on this month’s Seven Sites list has all of that and more. So, as you might have guessed, I was very excited when I found it. I think you will be, too.

1.www.wechoosethemoon.org:Forty years ago today, Apollo 11 astronauts stepped on the moon for the first time, and the world watched the grainy video on TV. Today, you can relive the entire journey online in the glory of 3-D. Here, you’ll find a real-time, interactive re-creation of the entire mission. (Yes, that means this site has been up and running for days now.) If you’re lucky, you can follow along with what’s left of the mission all the way up to the time of the landing as it occurred in 1969.

You can follow the mission, track the trip with information on the spacecraft’s velocity and check out video and photo galleries. But what’s really cool is that you can listen to the radio transmissions between Mission Control and the astronauts 40 years to the minute later. And what’s even better is the transmissions are being posted to micro-blogging site Twitter. Very cool.

2.http://gdgt.com:If you’re a gadget fiend or are just looking to research a potential purchase, this is a great social networking site to join.Sign up for a free account and you can build your gadget list to show off what you own, write and read reviews, and find some useful tips.

3.www.pixelcase.com.au/vr/2009/new...>Love New York? I do, too. Here, you’ll find an amazing panorama of the city. You can even zoom in and pan around.

4.www.google.com/google voice/about.html:If you follow technology, you already know about and are using Google’s latest service, Google Voice. If not, you need to visit this Web site and check it out.

Google Voice is a Web-based service that solves the problem of having more than one phone number, such as for home, work and your cell. Sign up, and you can pick a new phone number that you can link to every other number you own. For example, if someone calls your Google Voice number, you can configure it to ring your work, home and cell phones at the same time. What’s better is if someone leaves a message, it goes into a Gmail-like inbox where it’s transcribed into text. The Google Voice number also accepts text messages and lets you send them.

The only bad thing is, for now, Google Voice is open only to those who have signed up for an invitation and received one. Soon, Google says, that will change. My advice: Apply for an invite. I did, and I love it.

5.www.microsoft.com/ office/2010:File this one under something you need to know. Microsoft, ever pressured by Google, is on the verge of releasing a new version of its Office suite of software. The kicker is, this time around, Microsoft will offer Web versions of Office 2010, where users can do word processing in Word or create spreadsheets in Excel that will compete with similar applications on Google Docs. On this Web site, you’ll find everything you need to know about Office 2010 and when it will be available.

6.www.outofyourlife.com:For those times when the breakup is just too painful and eBay isn’t fast enough, there’s this site. As the name implies, this Web site specializes in selling jewelry — mainly engagement rings — from ex-boyfriends. They’ll even send you a “break-up box” to ship it off for an appraisal. Now that’s service!

7.www.uncontrol.com:A time waster and nothing more. Simply click a square on this site and let your PC draw beautiful pictures using algorithms that somebody spent far too much time modifying.
