Warren football standout on all-American team

Virginia Tech running back and former Warren Central High School standout Darren Evans has been named to the Football Writers Association of American freshmen all-American team.The 6-foot, 210-pound Evans led the Hokies with 1,265 yards rushing on 287 carries (4.4 average) and 11 touchdowns. He capped his season by rushing for 153 yards on 28 carries in Virginia Tech’s 20-7 victory over Cincinnati in the Orange Bowl, earning game Most Valuable Player honors.StarEast.com: Click here for the latest local news on schools, sports, events and more.While at Warren Central, Evans was the Indianapolis Star Indiana Mr. Football in 2006. The Warriors won the Class 5A state title all four years he attended school there.
