I'm really looking forward to seeing "Juno." Ellen Page (the star of "Juno") was dynamite in a movie called "Hard Candy." If you haven't seen it, check that sucker out. Plus you have Michael Cera, Jason Bateman and JK Simmons. Good cast.
LOVED Hard Candy, typical though it got a short release to make room for the Duff Sisters new "'film"..Ellen Page was also one of the few bright points of X-3..I'm really glad that Fox Searchlight hooked us all up!
I saw the preview for this movie not too long ago and could hardly wait for it to be released...so glad that now I don't have to!

You will not be disappointed, Juno played at the Austin Film Festival in Oct. just before the Heartland Film Fest.
Ellen Page is wonderful, I like to call her Canada's Natalie Portman. She has both Natalie's natural talent and skill in selecting roles that suit her. Among her other films, aside from Hard Candy, are WILBY WONDERFUL, and MARION BRIDGE. Look for her in An American Crime, which has Indianapolis ties for those who are unfamilar with the story. Sorry I don't have a release date......
Gar, Thanks for the Juno tip! If I'm not mistaken I think I met you at a "rough-cut" screening of Open Micers (sp?). A mutual friend, Jay, had a small part in it.
Thanks also for the Juno tip. I went, and it was pretty solid. It tried a little too hard for clever dialogue, and the younger Reitman needs to get his quirk under control, but I really enjoyed it overall. Ellen Page rocked. Michael Cera doesn't seem to ever age beyond awkward 17-year-old.
I'm glad you all got to use the passes( there's like 4 more showings)so everyone get out and see this film!

Agree on the Gilmore Girlsy too-clever-for-its-own-good dialogue. But when it worked, it was hilarious.
On a side note, why all the hate for quirk all of the sudden? Seems like the same people who were going hoarse singing Wes Anderson's praises 10 years ago are the ones bashing what he hath wrought now.
Take this article by Michael Hirschorn in the Atlantic, for instance:
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/2...
Quirk is far from universally good. At its worst it's self-satisfied, precious and just plain irritating. I'm just curious why so many are speaking out against it these days like it's some kind of cultural scourge. When did we reach the tipping point???
Matt.Gonzales : RE: wanna see Juno for free? More..
Oh and by the way, Jon, nice use of the adjective "solid" to describe the movie. Well played.
On quirk: I defend Wes Anderson to the death.
But what I meant is that J. Reitman doesn't seem to have it under control or in service of his story the way Anderson seems to be able to pull off. I think he piles it on a little too thick in Juno -- but that's not a major complaint, just a small detraction.
I still give it 3 1/2 stars.
I read the Hirschorn article. I really like his Atlantic stuff, but I enjoy his complaints about quirk about as much as I enjoy the piddle he puts on VH1 as its programming VP.
Matt.Gonzales : RE: wanna see Juno for free? More..
Agree on Hirschorn. His quirk bashing read to me more like an elaborate justification of the supremely non-quirky (and supremely stupid) "entertainment" he makes his living producing.
Christopher Lloyd : RE: wanna see Juno for free? More..
Quirk is fine. But you gotta work that quirk. That is, it's OK to use similar storytelling methods in different films, but you want to avoid repeating yourself. Anderson's themes of alienation/disaffection, use of glum static close-ups of actors accompanied by catchy but downbeat pop music have just gotten old to this observer.
It's like Ed Burns with his 5,077th film about living and loving in NYC. Or, as a friend remarked about the unnecessary third "Godfather" movie: "It's just more Italians killing each other and crying over their dead children. With opera."
In snobby intellectual circles, quirk is good until it becomes old, and then it becomes "twee."
I love that word. Just saying or typing it makes me happy: Twee, twee, twee.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to "Juno" as well.
reallllly, really good! sorry for not Introducing myself last night..I hope you enjoyed the film..had kinda a Wes Anderson feel to it..and that's not a bad thing at all
joe.shearer : RE: wanna see Juno for free? More..
Were you guys at the screening last night? If so, how did I miss you?
I was impressed by it. I wish Rainn Wilson had a couple more scenes, though. Jason Bateman was incredible too.
I was with people and I saw your were to.did you get a t-shirt? they had like 4 different one's I got the bright orange one..LOVED the show..but I HATED it when the Idiot people in the screening were laughing when Jennifer Garndner was talking to the girls stomach and it kicked..it was a touching scence viewed by a bunch of Morons!
joe.shearer : RE: wanna see Juno for free? More..
I know...That was a great scene. Forgive them, though, they are obviously just too conditioned to laugh at a comedy rather than being able to handle seriousness with their laughter.
My wife got one of the orange shirts too.
it was a young hip crowd though(I was lucky enough to be seated in the "talking section") but I can't complain though there was alot of fresh faces and they seemed to love it too!
did you guys see a free preview? where do you go to get coupons for free premiers?
