Vote advances F-35 engine
WASHINGTON — Despite a vaguely worded veto threat by President Barack Obama, the House on Thursday easily adopted a major defense policy bill that calls for continued development of a costly alternative fighter jet engine being partly developed by Rolls-Royce in Indianapolis.
The bill passed by a 281-146 vote. The bill moves on to the Senate for final congressional action and then on to the White House for Obama’s signature.
Obama’s veto threat involves the program to develop an alternative engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. That engine would be built by General Electric Co. and Rolls-Royce in Ohio, Indiana and other states. _ (AP) _
