Instead of pushing for yardage Tuesday, members of the Indianapolis Colts were pushing wheelbarrows at Indianapolis Public School 55 near Broad Ripple.

They and more than 250 other volunteers also could be found hauling mulch and tightening bolts.

Their goal: Replace an old playground at the school, 1349 E. 54th St., with a new, safe one designed using children’s drawings.

The play space is the second built by KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit that promotes play, with help from the Colts and National Starch. The effort aims to provide a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
