The University of Indianapolis women’s basketball team was picked to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference’s East Division in a pre-season vote of the league’s coaches.

The Greyhounds received 11 of a possible 15 first-place votes and finished with 63 points. Northern Kentucky got the remaining four first-place votes and had 55 points, followed by Bellarmine (37), Southern Indiana (29) and Kentucky Wesleyan (15).

UIndy returns four starters from last season’s team that went 24-10 and advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional final, just one game short of the Division II Elite Eight. The Greyhounds are ranked fourth nationally in the Women’s Division II Bulletin preseason poll.

Quincy was picked to win the North Division and Drury was chosen to win the West. The Indianapolis-based GLVC is using a three-division format for the first time this season.
