Two For $20: Mousetrap Bar & Grill

Mousetrap Bar & Grill is kind of like Colin Farrell: dingy and full of cigarette smoke, but still yummy. The dive bar/pool hall/burger joint that boasts seven flat-screen TVs easily could have been a delicious three-for-$20 outing. For $19.50, we had more than two leftover meals after our one very heavy, sleep-inducing feast.

Soups

Chili ($3): No joke, we ate this winter soup with a fork. It's that thick. Mousetrap must have invented the word "hearty" for this chili. They're also known for their "world famous" stew, which we're saving for next time. If you love beef-on-beef action, go for the chili cheese-topped burger.

Burgers

With 20 choices of half-pound burgers on the Mousetrap menu -- all less than $6.50 -- it took us longer to decide which ooey-gooey or unique topping to order than it'd take for "SNL" to finally make a funny skit again. We stretched our American-burger-loving taste buds and chose the pizza burger ($6) and the blue onion burger ($6).

The pizza burger was a pepperoni pizza on a slab o' beef. It was flavorful and tidy -- not as messy as you'd expect.

On the completely other side of the sloppy scale, the blue onion burger was glopped with blue cheese dressing and onion rings. This burger required some later cleanup, but we're not convinced the Mousetrap folks minded. It's not, shall we say, the napkin sorta place.

Fried goodness

Onion rings: Drop an extra $1.50 with your burger or sandwich for fries or crisp onion rings. The best part about these beer-battered rings is that once you bite into one, the veggie stays intact with the batter.

Cheese fries ($3.50): The crinkle fries are a classic touch, but it was the nacho jalapeno cheese that we texted home about. In fact, Amy loved it so much, she intends to go back and buy a pint of the stuff to take home, so she can eat it with a spoon while watching "Hope Floats." The owner tested hundreds of quesos to find the right one. It was so perfect, we just had to ask where this gourmet Cheez Whiz came from. But Amy says calling it Cheez Whiz is almost blasphemous, so we're going to stop there.
