X-Files, Season 3: "Clyde Bruckman's Final Respose", "Jose Chung's From Outer Space", "Pusher" and a host of the best X-Files episodes are all from this season. Of course, my all-time favorite episode, "Humbug" is from Season 2, but I'll survive.

Twin Peaks, Season 1: Because it's what happens when David Lynch does a cop show ... and there's lots of detail work to keep you going back for repeat viewings.

Sports Night, Season 1: Although I'd really prefer the whole thing (it just ran a season and a half or so). West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin in a less-preachy, more-witty mode (by far his best work) with a cast full of "that guy" candidates and now-familiar faces.

But I'd settle for BSG and Firefly, too ...

BTVS, season 3: Beautiful people, everywhere + intelligent writing + sci-fi attributes = one helluva season (And I will acknowledge my Joss nuttiness)

Simpsons, Season 5: Today, Simpsons is horribly hit-and-miss. Season 5 nailed almost every episode ... writing was still solid, too. Highlights include teddy bear Bobo, Malibu Stacy fury, Stampy.

CSI, season 5: I really like all of the seasons (except maybe the first, when characters were still very much developing) ... but if I HAVE to choose one, this would be it for the Quentin-directed finale.

Friends, Season 1: Fresh take on the tired sitcom and Chandler Bing made me laugh out loud. Sex & the City, Season 3: Although I've never met anyone who lives the way the folks on that show did, I was always entertained and often shocked by their shenanigans. Six Feet Under, any season but the final: I loved the bizarre death sequences at the beginning of each show and how they mirrored some part of the Fisher family issues. Plus, you always felt more normal after watching it!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 3: Because Faith kicks ass and looks HOT doing it, the mayor turns into a giant snake and they get to blow up the freakin' school.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 5: Because Glorificus was one bad-a** god, and the episode "The Body" has made me late for work every time it's on. Probably the most-satisfying/tantalising season finale of the series. Swing that hammer Buffy. Swing it!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer season 6: Because scary, veiny Willow ends up being the most awesomely awesome villain ever. Dude, she skinned a guy! And the musical episode "Once More with Feeling" has also made me late for work.

A season of Buffy certainly, though asking me to chose among them is like asking me which of my three boys is my favorite. Also, the first season of the new Doctor Who series (the season with Christopher Eccleston). I have no idea about the third--BSG, Firefly, or Gilmore Girls. Tough choice.

"The Body" was one of the best episodes of any series I've ever seen. A show being able to change thematic directions drastically for a single episode is a great indicator of greatness.

I concur with you guys, then, that one season of Buffy is a must.

I'll also throw in one of the later seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation (I'll say 5).

Finally, I'll go with Annie and drop a season of Six Feet Under. I'll diverge, though, and go for the last season. Killing off your main character is the ballsiest thing I've seen in a TV show, and the ending to the final episode made me cry like a baby.

Well, since only two seasons of Battlestar Galactica are on DVD as yet, I'll take both of those (yes, 2.0 and 2.5 count as one!) and Season 3 of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Well, that or any three seasons of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Anyway, why is a world without tabloid news dystopic?
