She may be only 7 years old, but Klaine Friend of Indianapolis is already honing her culinary skills. The junior chef took home second-place honors in the Make It with Cereal cooking competition at the Indiana State Fair for her Tutti Fruity Dyno Bites Crunch.

Tutti Fruity Dyno Bites Crunch

(Serves 6)

2 cups Malt-O-Meal Fruity Dyno Bites

1/2 cup flour

1/3 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

6 tablespoons cold margarine

1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling

1 (8-ounce) can pineapple tidbits

1/2 cup maraschino cherries, halved

Stemmed cherries, garnish

Pineapple slices, garnish

1. In electric mix bowl, combine Malt-O-Meal Fruity Dyno-Bites, flour, brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut in margarine with mixer beaters until contents are crumbly. Set aside.

2. Combine pie filling, pineapple and maraschino cherries and pour into a 9-by-9-inch baking dish. Cover with dry mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, or until filling starts to bubble. Remove from oven and garnish with stemmed cherries and pineapple slices. Best served warm with vanilla ice cream.
